Hey guys,
I recently purchased a rifle (my very first!) in 6.5CM which has a 1/2X20 thread. What sorta suppressor would you guys recommend? Both brand & size. I’m after something that won’t break the bank and is light, ideally. Mainly looking to save my ears, 6.5CM barely kicks haha.
Could someone also explain suppressor sizing (calibre) to me - do I need something to fit my rifle’s calibre or will anything larger than a rifle’s calibre be fine too?

Anything for a larger calibre will work but a little less effective the larger you go. It can be worthwhile if a good one comes up at the right price.
Make sure the thread is the same as your rifle, if you think you might want to get a bigger calibre one day you could get a larger suppressor so you don't need to buy another. I have separate suppressors for each of my rifles, always remove them from the rifle when in the safe too. Overbarrel suppressors are quieter than muzzle forward. I think someone on here did a comparison not too long ago.
Oh, and if you get an overbarrel, make sure the rear barrel bush is the correct diameter. If it's too small the thread may not tighten down fully and if too large it will not support the suppressor and will also leak powder gases back into your face.
DPT ones have a plastic insert that can be bored out to suit your barrel for an over barrel one. I have a DPT and a Gunworks both are good and both are overbarrel
You shouldn't get powder and gasses in your face if the bush isn't the right size unless its a suppressor that doesn't have an isolator tube, I haven't seen one of those in a very long time and I dont know of anyone that makes them like that anymore.
We run a mixture of suppressors here dpt mae hushpower, all seem to work. Although we dont own anything in 30cal we run 30cal suppressors so they will fit any of our rifles. I doubt you'd be able to tell the difference using larger cal suppressors on small cal rifles without some decent sound measuring gear

You also need one that is rated to the powder capacity of your rifle caliber. The options are rimfire, centerfire and centerfire magnum. For 6.5cm you just need the centerfire rated one.
As others have said, don't store your rifle with suppressor in place.
The other thing to know is that once you fit your suppressor, you will need to sight your rifle in again and then only use it with the suppressor on.

As others have said, you can put larger caliber suppressors on smaller guns. It'll be slightly less efficient, but probably not noticeably so. Seems lots of people use .30 cal suppressors on a range of rifles from .22 to .30 just out of convenience.
If your gun isn't factory threaded, check that it was done properly - there are some pretty terrible threading jobs and you can end up with the suppressor threading on wonky and the bullet striking the suppressor on the way out.

I use DPT because they are NZ made and in the top tier. It might sound a bit churlish but I also support DPT because of their innovation and research and development. That’s where Gunworks have fallen behind.
Hardy seem ok but DPT trump them for service.
Hey Steeve, I just saw your reply now - see my reply on the thread you started. I went with this cal because I’d shot it before and noticed the recoil is very manageable and I enjoyed shooting it too. My main concern was with the price of factory ammo but I figured I’m not gonna be going through loads of ammo and I made a friend in the last 6 months who reloads 6.5CM and would happily reload for me. It’s one of surprisingly many calibres which would do all I want it to, but its popularity and the fact my mate reloads them is what did it for me. I was also considering .243 as you are, and .308 due to the large amount of available factory ammo.Quote:

Atec out performs any of the kiwi suppressors and the ability to quickly attach with a quarter turn and run one suppressor on
Multiple rifles means you only need one . The adapters are expensive for what they are though ($120is)
One thing that disappoints here is the lack of a dedicated small compact suppressor for the 22 centerfires. I would guess that 22H, 222, 223 etc would make up the loins share of rifles out there and while we can get options for large magnums even up to 50bmg , local offerings are limited to 40 +mm cans that can handle the 3006. So we look for short actions, short barrels and light weight but use a can thats designed to use 2-3 times the powder of the 223. Which is why Iv gone to the Danish built sonic 35. Stainless interior , every baffle has a stainless insert, with 4 its only 85mm forward of the muzzle, weighs 260gms and the last one cost me $299. I use one on my 243ai as well.

I like what Gunworks have done as an option for tube fed .22s . It works very well.

I run an ATEC 45 Front with a single baffle on the 223 its short light and suppresses adequately a better judge of the noise would be by the guys that shot in the same squad as i was in for the hunter shoot this weekend. 212g about 80mms Muzzle forward.Quote:

Don't leave it on the rifle, as corrosion will kill your barrel and when it's on keep it on tight!
