I see lots of people that will only use alloys cans. WHY???
It's a shit metal, soft, weak, corrodes, stresses, erodes, expands, shrinks. Yet all you want is alloy cans. WTF? I don't see any, as in not one good barrel manufacture that builds a barrel out of the crap yet you all will put it on the end of a barrel. I just don't understand it. To worried that .0005 of a kilo will break your back?
I see heaps of reasons NOT to go alloy, but only one for.
Some would say the same of s/s 304/316 being the most common ones out there are soft and suffer work hardening and cracking.
Not sure if this is an issue in suppressors or not but wouldnt mind betting that a baffel light enough to flex would eventually crack and fall to bits.
Alloy should be cheaper to produce.
If built to the same weight the alloy one would be stronger. But more bulky
Why arnt we all demanding titanium ones?
The weights in the worst possible place so it becomes a major issue
It's not the "oh god it's heavy" effect of the weight so much as the "oh god it balances and points like shit" effect.
I'm all for steel where the weight doesn't matter so much.
Maybe VC, BUT ss lasts a shitload longer than alloy which cracks to (and fast, ask anyone with an alloy boat), and doesn't like fatigue at all. To get the same strength as ss the weight would be pretty much the same. So were are the advantages?

Ok VC, then why is alloy used so little when the serious stuff is going on? You never see piping going in using the crap even though it should be cheaper. A bit like fluting really. If it was of any use it would be getting done. It's not. Steel and S/S. Now if you were going to clad the scope get the alloy out, makes good rifle stocks too.
We got cracking on the boat last year, under ten year old but does some work. ;)
I'll take a lower life that is still probably comparable to the life of my barrel to have a 200gram suppressor instead of a 600gram one, when it's hanging off the end of my hunting rifle.

Titanium is around twice as strong as aluminium, however its around twice as heavy also.
So weight for weight there isnt much in it other than cost, which is huge.
Its also not the most pleasant to machine

Your failing to remember that fuck all people would put 1000 rounds through there rifle so does it matter?
So people take a massive weight saving over over a 50000 round count because it is meaning less to worry about it.
If a gunworks supperssor fails after xxx rounds it will get replaced for free, thats free for the life of it.

This is more the engineer in me coming out.
I saw on Thursday: Several suppressors from a popular manufacturer with various problems(as well as other manufacturers), some caused by poor QC, bi-metallic corrosion between uncoated aluminium and uncoated stainless internals seems to be a problem also. Example: suppressors with no holes in the baffles.
I also saw a very reasonably priced all-stainless muzzle can that weighs somewhere in the mid 300gms depending on configuration and is 150mm long and is very well designed and made by a single person who is an experienced and qualified precision machinist.
He also makes overbarrel if you prefer that, they are obviously significantly heavier.
I will have 2 of his .22lr suppressors to test sometime in the next week or so.
