Thread: Sweaty Box

My ex left her gun safe in my house after she left so I'm still using it.
Problem is that every time I put my long-guns into her box they get moisture on them...
No matter how much lubricating oil or vaseline I use, they still have sweaty condensation running down them.

But I finally found the solution...I wrap my long-gun in a condom-like gun-sock which then goes inside her sweaty box. Each 'sock' is silicone impregnated so it stops the moisture and the friction damage from rubbing against each other.

6 packets of gun socks for NZ$62 ex AU so NZ$10 each. They are 4" wide which was enough to fit over all my scoped rifles (note: I don't sell or make any money off these things).

Looks like her box has already had a reconstruction with that Styrofoam? Perhaps remove that and add carpet to match the drapes (any drapes will be fine) and a couple of moisture traps . But if youve got the cock socks working run that

do the guns get temperamental once a month? misfire for no reason and defy all bounds of accuracy.

Yeah, Id be ditching the Styrofoam - well known to make sweaty boxes sweatier.

Maybe you're trying to fit too many guns in your missus's box at once?

Yeah ok, I removed the styrofoam so let's see if it makes it less sweaty in there. I won't put in a warming light or DampRid until I see how the gun-socks work.

I also forgot to mention that silicone is extremely thin, which means that the silicone water repellent coat will eventually wear off the gun-sock, leaving parts of my firearms more susceptible to rust.

I therefore intend to reapply a new coat onto each gun-sock using a can of silicone spray (under $10), every 4 months/3x a year (I also apply the same silicone spray to my sleeping bag for weather protection).
