    switch rifle setup?

ok, i will clarify this, i have a tikka in .308 with no bolt, a replacement bolt is half the cost of the rifle. so i got to thinking, why not get another tikka in another caliber with the same bolt face as the 308 and then i can have 2 guns with different uses but share the bolt, kinda a matched set?
the big question is....... what caliber?
i was thinking the .308 i could setup with a red dot and a suppressor (its already threaded) and use it as a scrub / short range gun, so what cal for the second gun?

Is the Tikka action the same length for short and long action? If they are different you will need another short action caliber

you will probably have to get the rifle with missing bolt headspaced to the bolt out of the other rifle, maybe consider 243, or a 260 (if tikka make them in that caliber)

I would have thought head space could be a problem but if not then .260

    Buy a 7mm08 and ream it to a 280

Have to get the headspace checked when swapping bolts I think? Someone with more knowledge on the subject will be along shortly…..

Considering Tikka long and short action are the same length would 270 work? Bit more punch than 308. And 308 and 260 are pretty similar as far as I know

i can head space the .308 that is no probs.
.708 too close to the .308.
maybe a long action, 270 25.06 and set it up as a long range shooter.

If you were going to get a 7mm08 or 260 you might as well get another 308 so you can use the same ammo. The 3 I have listed are basically the same so as Greg said, 270/25-06 and maybe 30-06 for long range would be good choice

Real guns start with the number 3 or bigger and make two holes, one in and one out
