I run both .
For me it comes down to the type of land you hunt. I have some tight Matagouri gullies to shoot that require most shots between 10 - 80 mtrs , for this I run a .22. ( suppressed )
Then there is a lot of country down here where shots are 100 - 180 mtrs and static shooting while working a hill face and for this I use the 17hmr ( suppressed ).
A rough rule of thumb for me is if I am walking it's the .22 and if I am only walking from one static shooting position to another and setting up again it's the 17hmr.
+1 to Viper, and I would add that if you are shooting in areas were ricochets are an issue due to backdrops, the ricochet potential of the 17HMR is way less than the .22LR.
