    T3 6.5x284

Was considering getting my gun Smith to rheem out my 6.5 creed t3 to 6.5x284. Just wondering if there's anyone on here who has done this. And what speeds there getting out of the 22 inch barrel. I know it really comes into its own in with a 24 inch + barrel. Waste of time or worth it?
    Cheers

From what I’ve seen it’s a waste of time and money. As you say in a longer barrel things may be different.

Mate that's kind of up to you.

I know that with the right powder that the performance you can get from a 6.5x284 is a healthy bump over a creedmoor no matter the barrel length. But much like a PRC, it's more overbore and will root the barrel a lot quicker. Probably somewhere around 1100-1500 rounds.

I think your biggest issue will be finding a gunsmith who will do the work. A lot won't touch tikka barrels.

Yes I've heard barrel life isn't flash compared to the creed or 260. It's a hunting rig at the end of the day and 1500 rounds for me is still a ton of hunting.

Yeah I know gun works won't touch t3s it's hard on the rheemers apparently. I have a Smith who can do it though. Cheers.

Every piece of data iv seen from the 6.5x284 is extremely underwhelming the creed is awesome mate if you want a fast 6.5 I’d just buy another rifle in prc then you can share components between the two also iv just done a load in a mates 22” creed nice and mellow 147eldm at a little over 2800fps that’s very deadly way out far

2800 is pretty respectable out of a 22 inch mate.
What powder are you running in that? And how are the eldm projectiles on deer? I would love to have two 6.5s but I just don't have the spare cash for two rifles atm.

47.6 of rl26 fed 210 primers 2.240 CBO that load was an ES of 12 47gn was 2759 with an ES of 1 . We haven’t used it on Deer yet but iv used plenty of other eldm on deer with great results . If you really have a hankering I totally understand that! I’d 100% go the PRC and sell the creed the 284 would probably only get you 2850 anyway not enough for the extra powder consumption the PRC is abit more of a step up and I’d say worth the extra powder . The creed is just about perfect with all the shortages of powder

His barrel has probably had near 500 down it so it’s well run in I wouldn’t expect to see that velocity in a new barrel

Very nice cheers. I can't get my hands on any rl26 atm. I've heard that powder has great results. Best I can get is 2209 or superformance. I guess when you get an itch you have to try scratch it right? 6.5 prc might be worth a look if i can find a rifle chambered in it. Was looking at running the eldx in ether caliber. Thanks mate.

    I run 6.5-284 out of a 24 inch and that’s fine, I’m getting a smidge under 3000fps with 50grn RL26 pushing an eldx143

Tried 2209 but very high pressure at 2850fps…..very high!

When the barrel was longer I used 2213sc and ran just over 3000.

I love the caliber, but appears to be out of fashion.

Superformance yields pretty much the same results as the 26 mate same speed for slightly less powder obviously start low and work up don’t expect miracles on a new barrel either find a safe accurate load and go from their theirs lots of factory offerings in PRC now tikka begara howa Mauser sauer all have reasonable price points hard to go wrong with the tikkas

I would say don't do it.
I've had a tikka that had the chamber done as you are thinking and i really struggled to get over 2800 from it's 20" barrel.
I now had several .260 and 6.5 Creedmoor and and still use a Sako Creedmoor, in both cal I've had no problem to get the 143eldx to shoot 1/2 MOA and over 2800fps from 18 and 20" barrel.
If you use Hodgdon superprofrmance or RL26 you can achieve this.
So i wouldn't waste your time with the .284 option.

is this a tikka thing or is it a 22 inch barrel thing?

My 280 is running about 200fps slower than it "should" be using superformance and it has the full 7mm08 factory length barrel

How long and how fast is it going? How many shots down the barrel? The creed I’m speaking about is a 8 twist howa all of @25/08IMP data is exclusively on tikka and sako barrels we have owned 2 of the same rifles between us a sako and a tikka .260 all factory just shortened and both yielded good velocity I don’t think it’s their barrels Neil has fine tuned both the .260s and made it very easy for me
