I'm going to retire my 308 . So am buying new one So cut to the chase , without all the two lugs stuff and other tech stuff that I won't or don't want to understand . Hunt and fish selling remington 700 (adl?) $999 on sale . So $200 cheeper, will it shoot out of box as good as t3and if I'd doesn't, if $200 was spent on trigger or beeding would I be better off ?.
Not really. Tikka will probably shoot better from the go and be more consistent. The factory Rem stocks are a complete abortion and detract from it's potential accuracy, but the Rem's themselves are not bad guns.Quote:

I'm a Remington guy. You can't shoot much better than my 700 does. I know plenty of very happy 700 owners. Tikkas are reportedly good shooters, but there's a reason they're the base for the M24 sniper platform.
NZGuns mag did a comparison recently. Most comparisons show the are about the same so you'll be making a good choice with either.
So I'd say it's down to wht you like the look and feel of as there's not really any other practical difference.
Go into a gun shop and compare them put them in the shoulder and see how they feel. It's like buying a car everyone is different.
I assume you are getting another 308?
If so can you get a new T3 in 308 at the moment ? I heard they had run out ?
Both great rifles, the T3 has a much better stock as previously mentioned, but it really benefits from a Limbsaver recoil pad.
Being a 700 man at heart this is difficult to say, but I think the T3 is a better rifle, "non-pimped"
Munsey I have a Remington 700 and I hunt regularly with a mate that has a T3. Having used both rifles I would say that the most noticeable difference when in the bush is that the T3 has the advantage of a shorter barrel. The guys above are on to it when suggesting that it will come down to personal preference around fit and balance etc. Both are accurate rifles and if it is for hunting that you want it (as opposed to target shooting) then the very marginal difference in accuracy between the two is not really a consideration as dead is dead and a wee smudge of difference between your point of aim and the point of impact ain't going to change that.
remmy all the way. no one has mentioned the ability to lose bolts from T3s when slung accross your back if bolts open,
Id go remington, go have a play see what one suits you, flash some money around an you might get bit more off but shop around

For the money I would go Tikka as it will most likely shoot from the box without needing to spend extra coin.
Had both, there is no comparison to the finish the stock and accurracy and when i found out the remmy had the barrel screwed on crooked that was the final straw!
plus you dont need to a gunsmith to lighten the trigger.the only thing a tikka needs is a half cock if you so desire.
And they chamber the 6.5x55 and .260 say no more!

What feels better when its on the shoulder ? ( most important )
Would you look at customizing it later on?
Do you prefer the drop out mag style / floor plate or blind mag style ?
Scope and rings? what have you got or what do you need?
Remmingtons can come with a cheaper rings and scope package or quality rings only package at the same price . Tikka are standard with alloy rings which are functional but not really nice.
Both shoot just fine but they do feel different to each other.
I bought the 700 adl and scope package for that special price just b4 the roar. The plan was either T3 in 6.5 or 700 in 708. The 700 came up and i'm very happy with it. I like the short action and the long barrel. I find it well balanced, both to carry and to shoot off hand. Although slightly heavier than some rifles i've carried all day, it did't make my arm as tired. Weight isn't everything, balance is important too. I have a leupold to go on it, but as a curiosity left the "cheap" scope and rings it came with on (essentially the intro level Bushnell) and I can't complain. I doubt I could out shoot an off the shelf T3 with my off the shelf 700 SS adl. I'm glad I saved the $200 (even more if you count the scope). I think the 700 is a better fit for me.
Try out both, even try to take one of each for a walk and shoot, then pick the one you like the feel of best.
Great points. One thing I'd add is when testing how a rifle feels on the shoulder, I've found I need to test with the rifle scoped, as I've been mislead about the feel when just testing the rifle "bare" before.Quote:

T3 hard
I went into a shop to buy a T3, and walked out again with the money still in my bank account. Of the T3, Rem, something else and the Savage I liked the feel and fit of the Savage best but didn't like the flimsy original plastic stock. Ended up waiting and getting an Accustock Savage when they hit the country. By accounts I've heard the Marlin XS7/XL7 and Howa shoot pretty well so might be worth checking out.

Yeah, plus even in the best case scenario, my 700 (on the best of days) can shoot 1/2" (with careful hand loads)... if the Tikka will outshoot than great... what's another millimeter or two going to matter? Even at 500 yards?Quote:
