Hi guys, I have an action that has Ben tapped for a scope rail. Anyhow I'd like them to be plugged welded smoothed off and the action reblued refinished. Anyone have any recommendations for a Smith for this work?
Thanks in advance.

Cursed be the ground for our sake. Both thorns and thistles it shall bring forth for us. For out of the ground we were taken, for the dust we are... and to the dust we shall return.

Tried Alan Carr but he wasn't keen on it.

Just fill them with plug screws.
That was suggested but it really needs to go back to its former glory.

Another method much practiced in the US is to fill the hole with a screw (one that you know takes blue) of the correct thread and then gently preen the head to completely fill the hole. Correctly done this will make an invisible repair. Dave Ward used this method on an Oberndorf Mauser original sporting rifle he did up for me.
Here are some before and after pics using the above method. Thought I'd give it a go. Was planning on parkerizing or some form of coating so should hopefully be invisible once finished.
What is that? M1903?

One of the problems with using an appropriate sized screw and then dressing it off to match the receiver, is that no matter how hard you try, you will always see a semi circle of missing thread. That method as shown by NZShoota is an excellent way of making it virtually invisible - nice job. I have also seen it done after the hole has been slightly countersunk to remove a tiny bit of the thread and to tidy up any swelling left from when it was tapped. Think they use a drill with a 45 degree point rather than the usual off the shelf drill bit.

Cobus will be a good smith to try. Sourfully sold most of my machines and tools when I moved over. If I did'nt I could have invited you over.
