    A theoretical question

Ive decided to keep my 308 Weatherby Mk V ultra-light, but if I wanted to stretch it's legs a bit, what calibre could I open it up to ?

It's currently a 308 but runs off a long action ( thats blocked ) & the barrels mint so I want to keep it 30cal. So what's my options, 30-06, 30-06ai any other ideas ?
Shoot it, root it & then BBQ it !!!

What about a good old .300 mag? Or are you wanting to keep the bolt face unchanged?

    Yes.
    2975fps with 178gr amax.
    10 twist.

It would go better out of a longer action and throated to suit.

So does that work out to 200-300fps more than normal for you with that round?

Or 10 inches (20 percent) less wind drift at 600y.

    30 06ai may do better?

The 30-06imp I do is an extremely impressive performer Philipo.

    I got 3150-3200fps with 168s & 24" factory 30-06 barrel.

It is one of the "bigger" 30-06 improved, dies etc are simple, virtually the shelf

It takes 43 muscle's to frown and 17 to smile, but only 3 for proper trigger pull.
What more do we need? If we are above ground and breathing the rest is up to us!

    Don't think a 6.5 will be accurate in a 30cal barrel Mucko
