The bloke I hunted with in Victoria is a Thompson man. He had a couple of Compass rifles for paper punching but used a single shot Encore for deer hunting. He had a couple of others too but I can’t remember the models, they were really nice.
The Compass though had a really shitty synthetic stock. Really really horrible. Memorably bad. Much worse than a Hogue or Ruger American for example. But the barrelled action was fine, well made etc. The one rifle was brand new and felt like it was sitting in a plastic from an old Leyland car from the 70s, the other one he’d filled the forend with expoxy which helped.
I wouldn’t be able to deal with the stock.
