Thread: threading odd muzzle

I have this .22 with this odd muzzle that I want to get threaded for a suppressor. I don't want to cut the muzzle off for a traditional external thread, I'll need to thread internally and have an adapter made but the two local hamilton gunsmiths reckon they can't do it. Have no interest and time in posting and filling out police forms to send to a smith that may be able to. I thought of trying it myself, I know how use a tap set and have some engineering skills to make a crude adapter but a bit nervous that I may get it all on the piss. Anyone here in the waikato got the skills and tools that could help? Thanks.

Leave the tap set in the drawer.

I know it's not what you want to do but Gunworks counter bored a suppressor into my old .22 Norinco JW 25 and worked brilliantly-- no loose of front sight etc. Thought someone can help you out there.

You would have to ream it out inside
Re crown down in there
Put an internal thread in there
Make an adapter bush with a hole with enough clearance for the projectile to pass through

I would locktite to bush to the suppressor so the muzzle will look completely normal with the suppressor removed

Not that hard too do
Just tricky and one off
Your local gun plumber would hate it
Just turning hours into dollars for them

It can be internally threaded and an adapter made but it must be done on a lathe with a 4-jaw chuck and clocked true with the bore using a neat fitting spud. Any proper gunsmith should whack it out in less than an hour. They were 'bread & butter' jobs 30-40 years ago.

Gunsmiths are not what they used to be @gundoc

Bread and butter now is putting plastic bits together and buying in parts

try it with subsonics as it is....I did and decided not to bother with suppressor anymore for the 22lr....

do you include DPT in that "local smiths"?????? also have you looked into the push on models???

Be very careful with those toz rifles
That big thing on the front affects harmonics
I have seen some cut off and threaded and any form of accuracy just gone

@ 303, when we re open after the lockdown, bring your rifle along at our workshop at dpt and I can take measurements and see what we can do for you.

Yes and yes. I even made a slip-on, worked but it was easily misaligned if bumped.
