    Tikka 3.715 Magazine

    Hey team,

I have been thinking of having a play with the 180g Berger’s in my tikka 7mm rem mag and was thinking of getting an atlasworx bottom metal with hidden release and a 3 shot accurate-mag 3.715 AICS magazine so I can seat the projectile out longer and still mag feed. Does anyone have any experience with this type of setup? What it it like to carry as I normally hold my rifle around the mag. Are the release triggers likely to get knocked causing the mag to drop out.

Maybe best to spook and shoot if this setup is a pain to carry and prone to loosing mags.

    Thanks in advance.

Not to say it wont work but twist is probably a little slow. I managed to get the 175 eldx to shoot in my finnlight 7mmrm at 3050ish fps 100mtr .3moa group then out to 400 600 800 all first shot hits but they were hot as hell looking back and i think I was cooking the brass after one firing did it with not alot of no how or respect for reloading and am thankful I didn't hurt my self I could never get them to shot again in the same brass they wouldn't shoot an apple at 100 yards at best . It's a shame sako/tikka choke the 7rm with a 1-9.5 twist . If i were you I'd test it single feeding before investing the money in the new set up and hopfully you crack a load the 180 vld is a favourite of mine keep us posted good luck mate

Thanks @Kelton. I also have some 175 eld x to try as well. They state a minimum twist rate of 1-8.5” where as the Berger’s specify 1-9”. Have been reading of a few people shooting the Berger’s with success from a 1-9.5” twist but not a lot online about the 175 eld x. Will load few single loads up to try then. I would be happy with anything over 2900fps if they will stabilise and shoot accurately. Cheers

Awsome I assumed the 180s were 1-8 as most my Berger bombs have being I'd certainly go the Berger over the eldx all day iv had alot fail in the 175eldx and 7mm blaser mag and 162 eldx in 7rem mag iv had alot of success to but the fails were starting to get on par with success each to their own though best of luck the rem mag should be capable of 3000 with the right powder I'd have thought

Even though you use those long mag you still limited by 3.4xx coal length without having the action metal work.
The coal of the 180 vld hunting is about 3.475 in my Sako 85 to touch the land.

Thanks @Rock. Coal in my tikka with 175 eld x is 3.500”. I have modded my mag to get a coal of 3.45”. Have loaded a ladder of 2217 and 2225 to a coal or 3.43” but can’t get to a range for atleast a few weeks. What velocity’s are you getting out of your Sako? Maybe a 7mm Blaser might be a better idea than upgrading the mag.

22 inches barrel, 1:9.5 twist. I am doing the load development and getting 2900fts with IMR8133 powder but the groups is not good at 2 inches.

Was running Norma brass fed 215 primers and 67gr of reloder 26. Didn’t go higher as this shot into a very tight group. I also tried 2225 in another rem mag which gave better velocity would probably start with that.

The 26 will smoke the 2225 i think based on the 162 eldx but it's hard to get we tested it in a 22" finnlight 3 weeks ago and had 2850 with the 2225 and 3180 with 26 backed down though as pressure spiked with one load in particular my blaser load was 69 gn for 3060 didn't get to chrony the 2225 load but was equally as acurate

Yes I wouldn’t mind getting my hands on some re26. I think it would have the 180g Berger’s close to 3000fps. Might have to put my name on the waiting list.
