Tikka 7mm rem mag vs tikka 300wsm-270wsm

Looking at moving up in cal. I was wondering the pros and cons of the cals above. I was wondering if the wsm would be easier to mag fit then the rem mag? ,Cheers in advance team

I had to single feed my tikka 7mm RM with reloads. I have since removed the steel lip in the end of the magazine and they now fit in happy as. It was the only issue I had with the rifle and now I removed it so very happy.

You still need to modify the WSM to seat out long if you are keeping your .260 I would go 7mmRM

I have a 300wsm. I would be lying if I said it’s an unbiased opinion, but I would say 300wsm because it’s deadly accurate, puts everything down in its tracks and I’ve yet to find a caliber that was that easy to reload for. I once loaded 178eldx, 185 Berger’s and 180TTSX bullets to try them out and all of the shots were touching or very close.

Does the bolt pick the rounds up good with this mod? Any chance of a how to or photos?

This is ture, but my tikka 300 wsm even over 100 thous off land and factory mag feed, it shoots better than seating it out to land.
Modify the mag is easy then get a long bolt stop or just filing it to a long one.
Load some 208 eldm and push it at 2800fts, it’s a hammer! 7mm rem mag is good, but higher chance to hit and still run

Yup the bolt picks them up and cycles everything fine. I removed the guts of the magazine (spring and part that bullet sits on) then forced the steel lip up using a screwdriver and then pulled it out with long nose pliers. My mate did the opposite and removed the bottom of the magazine and apparently it just slides out much easier that way.

How well do you handle recoil ? Either caliber will take any game animal in NZ , if you place the shot correctly. So I’d advise you try shooting both before deciding- especially given Tikka is fairly light set up. The 7RM is an easier recoil compared to 300WSM having owned and shot both. Neither are unpleasant in recoil but you’ve got a sharper recoil to deal with in the WSM. And more so as you go to heavier 30 cal pills

    That’s true.

My T3 .300 Win Mag kicked like a mule in standard configuration with 208 A-Max. I fired 50 rounds on a range in San Antonio, Texas and felt pretty sore afterwards even at 104 Kg. It now has a Bartlein barrel and brake and is far nicer to shoot.

T3s are pretty light for the big magnums and recoil and whip hard without a brake or moderator.

If you're looking at running a tikka then WSM makes sense, long bolt stop and mag and you can seat them out way further than your lands will allow anyhow

Ive never fired anything bigger then a .308. Currently running a .260 which has no recoil at all. Thanks for the comment

thats a BIG step up....do you need the extra grunt/range/recoil ?????
the humble old dirty06 is still a hammer of thor and would stretch your useful range by a bit without the big ticket price tag...plenty of older ones going for reasonable $$$$.
I dont shoot much out long..350 yards is a long shot for me and the .270 handles that fine....
I reckon if you intend to go past that, you need rangefinder and drop chart...... horses for corses, just putting another spin to look at bud.

270wsm or 7RM be good. Laminated stock makes easier shooting.
