Tikka action screws
Morning all,
Just managed to strip out my rear action screw at 50 inch pounds when torquing into a B&C stock...
What replacement screws do you recommend? I have read that 60-65 inch lbs is the go to for B&C so I would like to find some replacements that will hold that.
-
I think its gunworks down south that do a stainless steel set
-
That's a lot of torque for a rear action screw. Are you sure it's the recommended?
-
I was under the impression it was around the 35lb mark, interested to see what others think.
-
Yep, I hear ya... I believe that 35lb is for the standard stock to stop it from distorting.
-
Standard stock is 40 inch pounds on the front and 35 rear
B&C or HSPrecision is 65inch pounds front and 35 inch pounds rear
-
Cheers boss... now... How do I get that screw out....:O_O:
-
If your fussy, I changed my t3 screws to the stainless sako ones, not cheap tho.
-
Not fussy mate... just dont like em threading out on my nasty ass Gorilla hands...
-
Is it a snapped screw or stripped thread?

Normally you apply separation force between the two parts, and turn the bolt/screw undone, or grind/cut the head off, and remove the two half's, and deal with the striped bolt after.
Seen as you are now going to need, an thread insert installed, consider dropping it off at a gun smith or machinist.
Now for sum free advise, buy sum antisieze, put it on every bolt and screw in steel, that does not spin round, at a great rate of knots,:omg: And yes I use it on my scope mounts and bases, shock and horror,:wtfsmilie: you can use locktite, but the only thing worse than a striped thread is a striped alan bolt or torx head, grrrr.:pissed off:
Also torque on hardware is very different, between dry and lubed, a tiny bit of lube, on thread and the contact face on the head of the bolt, (antisieze is fine) allow a much smother torque, and prevent galling and false torques readings.
Know the difference between ft lbs, inch lbs and Newton meters, as well as thou and hundreds of a MM, there has been an awful pile of balls up's, over the years, getting them wrong. or assuming, the tools you used were one, when they were the other.

Ha-ha... Yeah man. It's a fat wrench so it only goes to 65.
Thanks for the heads up.

I have the B&C and have the front and rear action screws set at 45 inch pounds. 65 inch pounds seems a tad high for that rifle stock.
-
Was it the screw or the action you stripped
-
The head of the screw... As in can't get any grip to remove it.
-
New screws purchased... It will be off to see @Dr. Watson next month anyhow so I will see how the factory stock goes one more time before deciding if I keep the B&C.
