    Tikka barrel '8

    Hi everyone,
does anyone shoots a Tikka T3 in .223 8'barrel with 50-55 grain projectiles, or is this combination better with heavier projectiles, if so what projectile size would be the 'sweet spot' ?
    Cheers for your time.

    It will be fine mate
Gives you the option of loading heavier, then mag length comes into play.... ahhh.

depends on what TYPE of projectile and what you are intending to hit with it.....
the Gforces /centrifugal spin on projectiles is huge and when you go faster twist it is even more so.
varmit type projectiles will be even more explosive...to extreme where they wont reach target if you push them fast enough.

for paper no issues, for varmits,no issues unless you go silly soft and silly fast

with stout or mono projectiles no issues

Mines a 1:8”. I prefer to shoot 64gr through it. The hand loader I got it from was running 75s, but hand to hand feed them due to limited magazine length.

Shoot some paper over a few distances and find what suits yours

I reload for a couple of mates running tikkas in 1:8 and 1:12 both using 65gr Sierra game king with easy sub MOA accuracy.

My 1:8 twist shoots 55gr bullets fine, even shot some 40gr loads years ago with no issues.

Which all makes the point you’ve got a mighty fine calibre you’ll have a lot of fun with!

    Good shooting!

Some thin skinned projectiles, for example the Sierra 1345, can disintegrate mid air if pushed too fast or spun too fast. There’s also the factor that any projectile, regardless of construction, has an ideal twist at a given speed to stabilise it. You’d be “over stabilising” it, I.e spinning it faster than it ideally should be, although this doesn’t necessarily mean that there will be noticeable adverse effects.

TL;DR: try it and you’ll find out.

Thank you all, that explains a lot
I would use it as a 'varmint' load mainly for shooting hares, rabbits and goats.
At the moment I am using a tikka with a 1:12 twist, but the barrel is too short for my liking and I was thinking of replacing the barrel in the near future with a 1:8 barrel, but would still like to use my favourite load which is the Sierra 55grain HP.
    Which comes to another topic,-
How much would it roughly cost to get a barrel swapped/changed by a gunsmith?
I do have the spare barrel, it just needs to be swapped and threaded for a suppressor.
