    Tikka M55, thoughts on rings/rifle

    Gidday team

Just come into possession of a MINT M55 in the mighty .222..... still has factory grease on it.....

Ive also just got hold of a little vx1 to get her going

Whats everyone's thoughts on ring suitability to fit the dovetail? I know optilocks would look great but unsure yet if they fit the dovetail?

Or what are you using? (ringwise)

I havent shot it yet but itching.

Ive only heard good things about the M55, so share your thoughts and what rings/scope combos you got going!

The leupold rings for cz 527 or even better the hold hillver ( now lynx optic) rings in low would work well I think.

Oh sweet so dovetail is about 16mm ay?

Those leupys aint to bad, ive never seen the hillver ones.

So in theory same as all the Tikkas, and optilocks would work?

All I can say, is dont ever lose your mag! I have, twice, and had to remortgage to buy another...........and then I found the original. The original M55 came with genuine Tikka rings, very, very solid, and a bit on the heavy side. But they never moved. The Hillver/Lynx ones are nice and tidy, old school steel, but nice and light.

Like my M55 lots. Later model Tikka rings fit, if you find mags in 222 get me one also, I am in the process of trying to make a spare one.

Supposedly the previous owner got it off from a collector, and he just stored it not wanting to wreck it.

My smith chucked a bore scope and would guarantee no more than 70 shots, but believes its only done in the 50ish max.
It still has all of the tooling marks etc from factory and there is still some factory grease here and there.
    Pretty happy

excuse the flash marks from camera...

Go and thrash the shit out of it - no good sitting in a gun safe ! It's pretty darn hard to wear out a .222 barrel unless your rough when cleaning the pointy end of the barrel. A mate has a L461 he used throughout his govt culling years and it's still on the same barrel after thousands of rounds.
