    Tikka ring recommendations

Hi all. I've heard a lot of talk about optilock rings for a tikka and that the standard rings are not that flash. I'm in a position where I can purchase some alternative 1inch rings and am looking for recommendations and advice. Are the standard tikka rings really that bad? I did have a tumble while walking across a creek and ding my scope which was subsequently knocked well out of line, would a quality set of rings reduce or mitigate this over and above the standard tikka ones?

    Many thanks
    Ash

Pretty sure if you wack any rings hard enough you will distort something... Probably take more force with a quality mount.

I never had any issues with the factory tikka rings but only have had them on a 308, something with more recoil maybe an issue? I upgraded to Talley's one piece as they are pretty rock solid and way lighter than optilocks.

I personally always check my zero on a target if its had a knock hard enough to make me wonder... worth it for the piece of mind!

If you want lightweight rings go Talley.
Optilock are very good and solid but heavy.

I’ve only ever used the tikka rings on my .223 & .284 with no issues.

The only thing I would recommend is replace the aluminium screws with stainless ones which can be bought from Gunworks.

As others have said talleys are good as I gave a set of them on a kimber.

    Optilocks are heavy & pricey!

Yep, i replaced the screws with the gunworks ones. Sounds like Tally is the way to go so far.

Yep talleys are the business, they hold up fine on my rem mag so id be happy using them with any cal. Failing getting some of those, the sportsmatch tikka rings are great, anesthetics are similar to the standard tikka rings but are awesome, very rigid, and attach to the factory dovetail too

Talleys and Optilocks are both good, but I prefer Optilocks of the two. Yes, they cost more and are heavier, but they are very strong and solid. The plastic insert clamps down and grips a scope without marking it too, which is another benefit.

For me, good rings are critical as they are the link between rifle and scope. There’s no point having a nice accurate rifle and a good scope if the interface is of inferior quality.

Talleys for me. Have used them for a few years now and have not had any issues.

I've got Talleys and no complaints, solid. When I bought the rifle, I was planning on using the factory rings, but they didn't look up to the job. Probably be fine on a smaller calibre though.

I had a Tikka several years ago. Used the factory rings. Had a tumble, the rifle fell smack onto a rock several feet below where I landed, bounced at least once - the scope didn’t budge and it held zero perfectly. Didn’t stop me buying optilocks though! Don’t ask me why.

Thanks for all the suggestions. I ended up purchasing some Talley rings from reloaders.

    Regards
