    Tikka T3 bolts

So.... I'm about to buy one of those $1999 Tikka carbine/Fullfield2/Gen5 Hardy combos from H&F.
I'm a little concerned tho - I've been reading LOTS how everyone seems to be losing the bolt for their T3s.
How? Why is this happening, and do I need to put a little string on my bolt, just in case?

I'm actually serious! Every 3 months I see a thread asking "where do I get a replacement bolt for my T3?"
Haven't handled a T3 (yet) but really, you gotta wonder why this keeps getting asked.....

I lost mine in the first week. I use a modified Bic pen and a nail

Dude leave it in the gun when in the bush and you wont lose it. Put it in your pocket or pack or god knows where and you might

Remove the front and rear sling posts and then as you have to 'carry' the rifle there is less chance of it dropping out.

I think as it is a good value rifle it is popular with newbies who constantly take out the bolt and put it "somewhere".
    Hence lost bolts.

I guess a lost bolt is a safe firearm

Once you have lost the bolt take the plastic/wood off and they would make a nice fire poker, or cut a groove across the end where front sight usually is and you have a billy holder.

Or carry it over their shoulder with the bolt open, one bump and the bolt release drops the bolt out.

Leave the bolt in, either decocked and closed on an empty chamber, or cocked closed with the safety on (bolt won't open then.

If you are going to use the "half cock" make sure it is in your hands!

Have "lost" a bolt once, managed to trace my steps and find it; but that wasn't even with a T3! Haha

Learned from that, and the bolt on my T3 is either in my pack, or decocked and closed on empty (showing my mates that it is empty!)

I still cant understand how you can loose it, I always take it out when at home and goes in a wee bag (i have 3 T3's) with magazine etc, when i go hunting it goes into the gun and dont come out until i am home again. Buy the gun and dont worry. Look at the stats of the number of T3's V number of bolts lost, it is not high

I do however know someone who went away on a trip with his 308 and took his .223 mag, had to single feed.............in saying that he still shot 2 deer!!!

Well I have two tikkas and I've not yet managed to lose, misplace or otherwise become locationally challenged.

They're pretty good in my book

However I like the "piss" you guys take from each other(including myself), it is the more likely and fair answer I saw in this thread.
    Good on you @veitnamcam!
