    Tikka T3 Scope Rings issues

    Hi everyone,
I got a Warne Maxima 30mm ring for my Vortex HS-T so i can put it over my Tikka but i can't align my scope properly.
As it is a "sideways" mount pieces it only can be fitted on the piccatiny rail that came with the rifle.
My question for some advise is, could it be a problem with the rings or the piccatiny rail standard from Tikka?
I use all my acknowledge and did ask few of my nzda friends with a lot more experience than me and they comment that the problem can be with the piccatiny rail, even mention that i may need to lap the rings.

Please, any thoughts and suggestions? I have Weaver tactical skeleton 6holes in my other 2 rifles.

    Cheers.

Throw them in the skip bin and start again. I fuckin hate Warne rings.
Unless you have a torque wrench they are are really good way to crush a scope tube IMO

@kiwijames i kind agree with you, somehow i didn't "match" with that ring too. I did like the weaver, they did very well in my other rifles and are holding "tight" in there.
I may drift to the "original Vortex match rings.
Lets see, i will wait a bit longer to see if someone will drop "another" kind of feedback.

    Thank you a lot!

Optilocks are the way to go,I never gad much luck with warne,if you want to go 100% with no margin of error,go with SPUHR,best mount in the business IMO but pricey!Name: image.jpg

Tank you @mayfly, i appreciate the suggestion. i will make an enquire about price, my budget is a bit limited right now and i am truing to get a first .22 to my girl friend.
By the way, nice rig, i did "love" the finish in your rifle, is it a SS with cerakote finish?

Cheers guys, i am sure that Warne ring will go away somehow.

@mayfly, what do you think about the follow mount? It is half of the price of "yours" and not yet in my budget but "dreamable" enough.

    Pick one of the following:

    1. Keep the rail and swap the annoying Warne rings with Leupold PRW rings, or Burris Zee rings. (Assuming that the rail is not the underlying problem)
    2. Start fresh with some Sako Optilock ring mounts (1pce), Leupold rings & bases, or Game Reaper 1 piece mounting system

    Question:
Are you having trouble with vertical or horizontal alignment?? Vertical = 20 MOA Rail? On backwards? Not enough adjustment in scope? Horizontal = rings installed incorrectly or mounting holes on action not in line with bore.

    Hi @Bryan,
So, the trouble is, i can't make it group with less than 1.1/2", it get kind all over the place such as the following photos. The base was put together by me and i did follow all the procedures such as "glue" it and etc. The base(Piccatiny rail) is a standard Tikka 0MOA that came with my Varmint rifle.
Scope adjustments i am sure is enough as it is a 75MOA travel stated by the manufacturer. As you can see in the photos, it is "random" but mostly horizontal what make me think the problem are the rings.

I will look more carefully in the matters and maybe swap one of my scopes or buy a better ring set for it.

Thank you a lot for the advise.

    Cheers.

Please disregard the "nice" grouping in the "top" target as it was from my 7mm Rem Mag with one of my loads.

Are the other groups all with the same ammo? 100yards? Could be that you need to try different ammo/reloads? What cal is it by the way?
I am assuming you have checked that everything is secured tightly? How about the recoil lug, is it sitting in the stock correctly?
Warne rings are strong, but an absolute dog to put together, it could be that they are too tight on top and too loose at the bottom, causing them to shift slightly every time you fire?
Worse case scenario...you may have the only T3 in the country that doesn't shoot bugholes. The top right group could be classed as MOA accuracy...you should be able to do better than that though.

Did it shoot well before fitting this scope?

I am pretty hard on gear, my rifles are tools and are not babyed. They rattle around in vehicles, get used as walking sticks/slashers get dropped bumped knocked and even thrown on one occasion.( to keep balance not a tantrum!)

Can't say I have had a problem with things moving yet except one occasion when the scope tube got bent slightly in a fall.

Pretty much any ring properly mounted should not move tho my preference is for steel.

I dislike rails simply because as an engineer it makes no sense to bolt something on to bolt something else on, just make something that fits in the first place!

If it shot well before with the load you are using then I guess it must be a scope or mounting issue.
re check rail is well mounted with no stress anywhere as you tighten each screw separately with the others loose.
If all is good tighten down lightly while pushing rail towards the muzzle firmly and tighten down fully a bit at a time on each screw.

mount the rings and scope leaving everything loose.
do up the bottom screws till they just grab the rail, tighten top screws till they just grab the scope and loosen til you can just move scope.
Push both rings hard forward against the stops pushing from the base, only just nip the bottom screws.
position scope for eye relief and level.
only just nip the top screws.
All parts should now have centered themselves to the scope tube and have no play for recoil to move them.
tighten bottom screws firm then tighten top screws.

If Still having issues its the scope or load.

    Hi @Bryan,
The ammo are all the same and the "NICE" group in the top is from my hand load on my 7mm Rem Mag, the other is a 7mm-08 with Winchester Super X factory ammo, what normally goes well on my Tikkas(.223 and 2X 7mm Rem Mag).
About the fittings, yes, i did check and recheck everything more than twice, recoil lug is fine and rings checked many times for the "right" snug fit.
Many people say the piccatiny rail that come in the Tikkas are somehow "crap" and make life difficult to nicely fit/sight the rifle.

I will keep listening and then make a decision in what to do next. The rifle is for sale right now but i MAYBE swap rings and have another go.

    Cheers.
