I’m After a bit of help and wasn’t sure what topic to put it under.
Snake bore pull through is well stuck down my barrel, like well stuck.
Upon effing things up further anyone got any handy tips to get the bugger out?
Snake is fully inside the barrel, only hanging out the end.
I think trying to push it out with something will just bunch it up and make it tighter. You should be able to pull it out. Just pull harder:)

Heat a piece of straight rod and burn it out, have you used the wrong size pull thru or added a piece of cleaning cloth to the loop end.
Gunsmith, they have probably seen it before.
I did read about a guy who had something like this happen with an AR15. He took it to a gunsmwith, they screwed a fitting onto the end of the barrel and pumped grease into it until it came out.Quote:

I had this happen to me on a 22lr. luckily I grabbed the broken end and pulled it out
After that I would not leave the barrel too dirty before I use the snake again, but if I did, I use a rod and brush first to loosen up the dirt build up first before I use the snake. I have not had issue since. I dont shoot centrefire enough to have this problem, but i have to follow this rule for my 17hmr and 22lr, espescially the match barrels.
My 243 boresnake was so damn hard to pull through my 243 i decided to use the 22 boresnake instead. The 243 one got used on the 260.

Muzzle loader shooters have a tool called a worm for exactly this situation with a lost patch or to pull out a mistake loaded charge. Sort of like a corkscrew that grabs the wad and drags it out. With a stuck Buller it's tapped in today then screwed into the bullet to pull it out. Of course it's a bit easier when the calibres over 45 compared to a 223

If the bronze brush of the bore snake is to big ( wrong bore size) you could pour some butch bore shine or another strong copper remover in the bore and leave soaking overnight. That might chew through the brush bristles and make it easier to come out? Just a suggestion, I have never tried it myself.
Butches bore shire will also disintegrate the nylon Part of the pull through but will take a couple of day to do so.Quote:

Awee tale about this -during my TF days was acting CQMS for the company on a range shoot at West Melton.one private soldier "cucumber"was notorious for attracting trouble and sure enough -used a double 4x2 patch cleaning his SLR-wedged tight in the barrel so he for reasons best known to himself cut the bloody pull through off!!

I reckn if you haven't cleaned yr rifle bore for a long time or many shots.Use the next size down,in bore snake or cleaning rod n bushs for 1st couple of pushs,pulls thru bore then use yr correct size.Just a thort.

Naturally enough I pulled harder and thought fuck this is really tight. Haven’t had a chance to try some of these ideas out. Hydrolic push would be the best or smoothest way without causing any damage. I would fill the muzzle end with some wax to stop oil leaking out too quick. then fill it with some engine oil from the chamber end. then get a big strong cleaning stick with some cleaning tampon or big cleaning patches on the tip to create a plunger, not too tight as you might end up getting that stuck too. then just give it a quick hammering and see what happens. should push the snake smoothly out of the muzzle end.

Lots of good suggestions, one or two crazy ones!
I've also seen this happen, simply mistake, wrong size boresnake got stuck, the lad (120kg, 6'8", lock forward) gave it a really decent pull which just made it worse. Stuck as....
As per some suggestions, a really good lube with oil, allow it to soak, then with the chamber end of the snake gripped tight as in a vice, a strong bloke grips the stock at the pistol grip and forend and, with some slack in the snake, gives it one or two proper hefts. With his body weight and the shock of the snake suddenly tightening, I would be amazed if it doesn't come out.
With the example above, it took 3 or 4 good yanks before the abrasive metal pad shifted slightly (that's usually the bit that gets stuck), then one more heave ho and out it came.
Just for gods sake make sure you've got your feet positioned right, or you'll tip over with the rifle!
I would be surprised if this wasn't what a gunsmith tried first...

Results!
Boiling water worked a treat team! after a breaking the thin part of the snake I had to improvise and use a ratchet tie down to tie it to something secure, cracked it up on the ratchet then 5-6 solid tugs ( most of us are good at that ) and hey presto she’s out.
The culperate was a folded end!
I figured it may have knotted but alas it was the cheeky fold

Bore snake or cleaning rod? Such questions have befuddled gun owners since the dawn of time. Ancient Mesopotamian texts give some guidance on how to best approach this question, but ultimately it was left undecided. However, we aim to settle the matter once and for all . . . Actually, it’s impossible to settle. Take a look at some different systems for cleaning your bores and you’ll probably wind up buying a little of both, because they each have strengths and weaknesses.
Bore Snakes vs Cleaning Rods – Bore Snake Advantages
The primary argument in favor of bore snakes is that they reduce the chance of damaging your gun’s chamber or muzzle through wear. I’m sure we’ve all seen old military rifles with work out muzzles or that had to be counter-bored to fix a worn out muzzle area. This happens from regular use of a steel cleaning rod with no guide, which combined with the inevitable grit that collects on a gun, wears down the muzzle area. And if you’ve just purchased a beautiful Smith & Wesson 686 revolver, the last thing you’d want is to damage its accuracy by manhandling a cleaning rod down its muzzle end.
Obviously soft aluminum or brass cleaning rods help offset that worry, but the problem of grit sticking to the rod and wearing away over time remains. Likewise, while it’s almost always a good idea to clean your barrel from the chamber end, minimizing muzzle damage, it’s often impossible—try sticking an 8-inch cleaning rod from the chamber end of a revolver.
So . . . the compromise: bore snakes. There are two kinds of bore snakes, some like this one from Sage and Braker:

This allows you to mount a bore brush directly to the bore snake itself, which allows for greater flexibility in cleaning. Reminiscent of old European military cleaning kits, the Sage and Braker is probably the most advanced bore snake on the market, as it works with nearly every caliber with just a simple change of the brush and allows you to use more aggressive brushes if needed. It is quite possibly a true cleaning rod replacement.
On the better known end of the bore snake spectrum are the famous Hoppes bore snakes:

These have built in caliber specific brushes and require you to purchase multiple bore snakes for your guns. This can become a rather expensive habit fairly quickly if you have a lot of different calibers, but if you don’t, this is an easy and quick way of cleaning your barrels. Again, since you’d want to clean your barrels from the chamber end, using a bore snake makes this practice possible on revolvers.
Bore Snakes vs Cleaning Rods – Cleaning Rod Advantages
Of course, if you’re careful and can stick a cleaning rod down the chamber end of a gun, a cleaning rod is generally better (i.e., cleans better) than a bore snake.
One-piece cleaning rods are the strongest, and they are typically made from more durable materials and do not break down for easy storage. Fine to stick in the gun safe or back of the cabinet, not so handy for carrying to the range or hunting.
Multi-piece jointed cleaning rods take up little room, but are usually made of soft materials to protect your bore, and can bend, flex and break at the joints. This is fine if you are doing normal cleaning, but if you have a neglected or heavily fouled bore, the heavy effort to clean it could destroy your cleaning rod.
With cleaning rods, we again have two popular options. The first are the traditional jointed cleaning rods like the ones found in this Hoppes Universal Cleaning accessory kit:

Naturally, there are dozens more variations on these two themes, but it boils down to either a single piece rod, or a rod made of jointed sections you screw together. Each have their pros and cons. As I mentioned earlier, if used incorrectly, cleaning rods can wear down the muzzle on firearms, which makes using a cleaning rod guide an absolute must:

Bore Snakes vs Cleaning Rods – Conclusion
Well, it’s a little from column A and a little from column B. My personal choice for every day work is the Sage and Braker. It has all the advantages of a bore snake, with the usefulness of using regular bore brushes. Toss the snake itself in the laundry when it gets dirty and change out the brushes as you need them, making it a truly universal bore snake solution. I even like to soak the area just above the brush in solvents or oil to better distribute them through the bore and aid in cleaning as I pass the snake down the barrel.
Of course, it really also depends on what kind of gun you’re cleaning. I own quite a few semi-auto pistols, and with these weapons, where you can insert the brush through the chamber end, I don’t really feel a need to get a bore snake. Since I’m careful when cleaning, a regular cleaning rod is fine, and it’s generally a three-piece brass cleaning rod. This is also my go-to cleaner when I buy used guns for the first time and want to really scrub the crap out of them.
Maybe I’m old fashioned, but I prefer a cleaning rod for a deep down scrubbing. It’s also the one I keep in my range bag, as it’s cheaper to lose a cheap cleaning rod than a nice bore snake, and I don’t feel bad about loaning it out and never getting it back. Plus, it’s good to have a spare.
In the end? A high end bore snake is probably the absolute best way to go if you can’t clean your gun from the chamber end, and if your gun is new and/or doesn’t need a thorough cleaning. If you can clean from the chamber end and/or you gun is really dirty, then a single piece cleaning rod made of carbon fiber or coated polymer works fine. Keeping bores clean is critical for accuracy and performance, and there is no reason to skimp on buying your primary cleaning tool. Buy a good bore snake and a good cleaning rod, and you’ll be ready for anything.
Yep, that's me, my main use of boresnakes is to remove excess oil from the barrel before a hunt/trip to the range. I don't know how well they do the job though, they don't appear to be very absorbent.Quote:

Yip,silly you. It's all about pressure, the front sight relays distance to the barrel as we all know, the barrel compresses extra powder and away you go. Sometimes they even hairline crack. A liberal dosing of talcum powder on the top part of the barrel soon shows them up however. Moral of the story, always shoot close.Quote:
