Thread: Tops rifle

My homework looking for an alpine/tops rifle lead me to a custom 280Ackley based on rem700 270 as donor action. Had picked up a Browns Kevlar pounder stock a year or so back and got Grant at Trueflite to true the action, and add a 24in 280Ackley UM barrel No3 profile fluted and bed the action. Gunworks did the bolt fluting & changed trigger over the Timney Calvin elite. Bare rifle weighs 6 lbs. All up with VX6 & rings its under 7.5 lb . Pushing 162 AMAX 2900 - 2950 fps, but only just started on load dev. Looked at idea of factory options like Kimber and Forbes, but reports were variable in regard to long range accuracy. So went for custom build ... besides its a lot of fun.
