Thread: Touching up scratched anodising - what to use

So i would like to touch up some anodising on my now prohibited item in order to maximize the compensation I get from the confiscation circus
Has marks from being in a safe with other companions too close. Not bad but enough to take it from near new to used
What to use??

I used a bit of matt black spray paint. And also strategically placed a scope mount haha

Fingernail paint?

Matt black Primer. Can get a spray can pretty cheap

I used some electricians tape round the buffer tube mounting that was scratched and left the scope mount on to cover some damage to the rail. Passed as new and the mount was paid for in situ

VHT black engine spray paint, strong and lasts well.

I was in gun city dunedin looking for blueing compound, almost accidentally bought some other stuff they had for turning aluminium black, can't recall name but was about $20, someone will know what it is.

If you don't care about durability though, would think matte black humbrol paint tin the way to go - can always remove if not matching.

Match of colour / matte tone will be improved by smearing the entire gun in vaseline for long term storage, but make sure oil based paint is completely set first.

Main thing though is action working smoothly.

@Cordite I attended my second event this past weekend, and this time when you entered the building they put a chamber flag in as well as tape around the action. The assessor didn’t even open the actions. Inspection was far less thorough then the first event I went to.

Wattyl Super Etch primer works well in black.

Yep that's the one, I see I did not remember the price too accurately, probably because I didn't buy it. No good for steel.
