if you were going for a 7mm08 the 308 is close enough to do exzarkerly the same thing. now 270, 7mm rem mag etc, that's a little different
Yes csmiffy is right. You need to move up to a WSM or a proper magnum to make a switch worth while.

Thinking of maybe either a 270 wsm or 7mm rem Mag
7mm rem mag would the way to go. Heaps of rifles to choose from, heaps of factory ammo, lots of really great projectiles for hand loading. 270 wsm is far more limit in all regards.

If you want better for long range then 7mm08, 270 etc is just a sideways step really. They each have their own benefits but only minor. Look at a magnum or something like 284 / 280 for more range.
