Cool Trigger for weatherby vanguard/howa 1500

Following on from my post this morning my major issue with my weatherby is the trigger even when adjusted as light as it will go it just feels clunky and I don't like it.
Can anyone advise from experience is it worth getting someone like gunworks to do a "trigger job" on it or will that just make it light and clunky ?
Failing that does anyone know of anywhere in NZ that stocks an aftermarket trigger that won't see me come under the attention of the manager for war and finance ?
    Thanks in advance

Maybe I should explain what I mean by clunky.
Even with it adjusted as light as is safe to do it still doesn't break crisply.
There is zero creep in it.
It just feels hard to break to the point it is causing me to pull shots.

Had couple done by Robbie and @gundoc and both came up very nice.

Father's one sits at a crisp 1lb on his varmint gun.

Timney's will run about $300 give or take 10% and are very nice.

The HACT Trigger is a good unit.

I have two howa's both HACT triggers were still too heavy for my liking at the minimum trigger adjustment.
    Had them seen to
Springs shortened by 1 coil and they are now light crisp and no creep. With plenty of adjustment left if you prefer a heavier pull.

How did you find the trigger jobs were they nice and crisp ? Would you justify the extra on a timmeny for a hunting rifle or just get a trigger job and enjoy ?

You cannot remove the pull weight spring (sorry terminology) on the vanguard trigger without completely disassembling it as its captive.
I thought about removing the trigger itself and having a go at polishing the sear but dunno if that will gain much ?

Yep the HACT trigger requires disassembly to get at the spring and the sear if you are going that way
Unless you know what you are doing when it comes to polishing sears I'd leave that to an expert
1 Gnats hair of wrong angle and you might as well buy the timney now

My other great fear was ballsing it all up for no gain

I have had a bit more of a play with it and adjusted it right to the point where the saftey wouldn't engage, then bought it back in till it would.
Seems a little better, will know when I put some rounds through it.
Checked saftey and cocking, it passes the bump test and pulling on trigger with saftey on. So all good in that department

I had similar issues with my wby trigger played around with the springs and adjustment felt good at home but when actually shooting it under concentration it didnt feel good. Bought a timney and fitted that. Much better now, think i had to remove a bit out of the stock with a dremel to get it to fit.

I Googled how to fix a Weatherby trigger, tried it all and still felt like shit. Bit the bullet, bought a Timney, never looked back. You wont regret buying an aftermarket trigger such as Timney or Hact for a Vanguard.

@dannyb I prefer the trigger job as you can keep them 2 stage. The timney I have is single. Both are good but personally I prefer 2 stage for hunting

You can lighten them by cutting 1/2 a coil- a full coil of the spring
I done it to my 6.5 Grendel and it’s awesome
Do it a bit at a time and test it if you do take a little to much off
It’s still adjustable with the screw but take a little off put it back together test it if you want it lighter
Take it back apart and cut a little more off and test again

I suggest doing this with the adjuster screw about halfway between lightest and Heaviest setting so you still have adjustment in ether direction to tune it just how you want it

I replace the springs in Howa HACT triggers for 2lb ones as a matter of course and it works extremely well. Get them from a bloke in Aus.

They are available for the older single screw triggers. I’d be doing that before cutting springs as once its cut, its cut and I know of one rifle (older Howa) were the owner didn’t want to spend $15 and ballsed it up and ended up spending $15 anyway. There are some other polishing tricks you can do.
