Think it's the usual case of do you want velocity or a short handy rifle?
Most 223 factory rifles seem to be around the 18-20" length, with longer being reserved for varmint rifles (or the Tikka T3).
If AR15 thinking is anything to go by, there is a significant performance drop from 20" to 14.5"
I've got a factory 22" T3 that I'm going to chop down to 19", as IMO 22" with another 4"+ of suppressor is too long for a hunting rifle.
From experience with a few long barreled suppressed rifles and OAL (barrel + suppressor) of 22"-24" is about right, but obviously the shorter the handier the rifle.
Had few in 16in and all shot very well . if getting cut down get it threaded to the standard US thread of 1/2x 28 as heaps of x ar15 brakes and suppressors around at good prices .
had a 12 inch barrel on my ar it was great for a point and shoot
iv barely used the replacment so the 16 inch it came with is fine
Got an suppressed18inch on my savage .223.
Still know over a fallow at 425meters with a 65gr gameking.
Using Tapatalk
Mine is 15" with a DPT can.
Pushes 50gr TTSX at 2797fps, Blitzking 55gr just under 3000fps and hits rabbits at 270m on a good day. My go-to rifle for everything from Myna to red stag...
The deer and goats don't notice any difference with my 12" barrel and OD Samson suppressor. Makes for an awesome point and shoot bush gun, never gets snagged when slung over the shoulder
Cool thanks guys
The ruger replacement for the ar has a 16 in barrel it launches belmont black 62 grain at 2813 fps, the zastava with a 20 inch barrel sends them out at 3050. I wouldn't go shorter I value the speed and extra energy at the other end and a 16 inch barrel and can isn't really that long or clumsy.
Many, many Tikkas are now 16-18". Great little compact rifles and still plenty of speed
My 16.5" T3 pushes a 75g Amax at 2600 fps, and seems to work just fine.
