Tripods, who’s using what, and what to avoid ?

Getting into LR/ long range hunting and looking for a sutable tripod.

I was originally planning to get a Backlanz tripod so I can reuse the mounting points from my bipod for that, but they aren’t planning on anymore, so need to find an alternative.

Preferably as light as possible and robust

We import the Sunwayfoto T2830CS hunting tripods. Incredibly light, integrated inverted ballhead that works with arca or picatinny. Sold all the stock we took to Sika show and then some.

Tricer make a good tripod. 2 different sizes, ship out of modern hunter in aus. Good weight to stability ratio

I have an Aziak Back Country with the same ball head. It’s a nice compromise between weight and stability. I also have a bino clamp that mounts to the Arca. I like it so far

The range of what we think and do is limited by what we fail to notice. And because we fail to notice that we fail to notice, there is little we can do to change; until we notice how failing to notice shapes our thoughts and deeds

I have one of the Sunwayfoto Tripods sold by Nightvision NZ. I got the shorter version but in hindsight I wish I got the taller model.

    Pros:

    Very light

Inverted ball head gives it a low centre of gravity and overall makes the design more compact

Not a pain at all to carry around, even in the bush

Comes with a QR Arca plate that also works with picatinny as well - very handy

    Cons:

The shorter model that I got is only just a little to short for most uses when it is fully open

The ball head has a QR lever, but no knob for making fine adjustments, can be a bit fiddly to adjust under pressure

At full extension shooting standing, it has some noticeable flex, but thats the price you pay for the weight savings.

That said, extremely handy and allows me to establish a solid shooting position basically anywhere.

    I got one of these

I have had a fee silk tripods and i think vanguard but the ball head are such a pain in the ass to use after using a fluid i had to get one.

The fluid head is so nice, if i was buying it again, i would probably go the tricer vut that wasnt an option i knew of when i ordered this in but im very very happy with it.

A trigger stick isn't quite the same but I'm finding one really useful.

I take it the one with longer legs will have less flex as less extension is required to reach the same height ?

I was going to mention the same. They have their place for sure, but probably not what the OP is looking for. After being impressed with the full length version, I've just ordered the short version from Aussie (a lot cheaper) as a bipod replacement.

Interesting concept, and undoubtedly has its place, you learn something new everyday !
Im certainly more after something suitable for emplacement, the rifles a smidge under 4kg with no optic, and more of a ridge to ridge affair in operation.

I have the tall version and use it on my fx wildcat for bunnies
Great big of kit especially for standing in back of Ute for more built up areas for safe shooting and great for multiple targets
Still can’t beat quads sticks for stability for longer shoots with fx or centrefire (did a lot of culling deer heading and neck shooting in uk with blaser quads so use to them) different tools for different jobs

Yes, I would say quad sticks are more stable from standing, but trigger sticks from a seated position with the right elbow rested on the inside of the right knee (right hand shooter) would be a close second.
