The face on your was .073mm was close for 80% but had a dip in it? The top photo shows hacksaw type marks as well it's quite comman:o but in saying that a few I done they never wanted them trued an have shot well so I have been told as well.
I do 'recut the thread, I don't take it out to a standard I should but just go to where it will clean up an a minimum metal removal. It's hard to see but that above action thread face an lugs been done

Re: To true or not to true
I would question why you wouldn't true an action if you are re-barrelling it...
If trueing an action is a waste of time, then why would you consider buying a custom action that is a clone of a mass produced one? Isn't the main point of difference with most/all the Remington clone actions that they are true from the manufacturer? (most will also have tighter tolerances which also must lead to more accuracy potential?)

Re: To true or not to true
No1 thinks it's a waste of time then? Might be why some people are anti 'customs' since they seam to have all theses issues an won't shoot?? Maybe they skipped out on that little bit.

My last 700 that had the barrel off was sweet (SF2 Action) - dropped it off to Mitch to be done while I was overseas - checked it - wasnt worth setting up on the machine.
Gun shoots under 1/2", and thats prob about as good as I can shoot a big magnum anyways
700s for eg there is a big difference in quality between say a Sendero and SPS as far as fit and finish goes
How did he check it with out setting it up in the machine?
An finish yes difference they are polished, fit sometimes not have seen my share of them that where no different to standard spss.
