I’ve been planning on getting a 300wsm for a while know. I suspect there will be others out there who like me are planning for a new rifle, collecting info and ideas with the intention of making a purchase once supplies open back up.
I’m not planning on spending custom rifle sort of money but will do some minor DIY to accurise a factory rifle.
I want to shoot heavy 30cals on steel and goats past 1000m. I will be aiming for an unscoped weight of around 4kg.
The original plan was a tikka 300wsm. I have a compatible stock and also a chassis, AI mags and scope all good to go for a tikka.
With the wsm I can seat projectiles long while still mag feeding from the AI’s.
I’ve just looked into brass and I’m basically limited to Norma which has shit reviews and pricing. Tikka are also behind the ball with barrel twists.
I had paid off the 300prc as marketing hype. What I realise now however is that factory rifles will offer appropriate twist rates and I will be able to get top shelf brass.
Who has experience handloading for 300prc factory cambers? Will the likes of the browning x bolt or bergara ridge allow me to run 225gn projectiles seated appropriately?
If not, how likely is it that a smith will be able to adjust the throat on one of the above rifles? Ie will I need to source a reamer?
(I don’t mind single feeding / modifying magazines as I will likely make a new stock from scratch).
Cheers
