Thread: Ukrainian adopts 7.62x39 AR system

Another country adopts the M4/M16 system but this time starting with 7.62x39 to use up their old stock of ammo. It will be interesting to see how reliable it is.

Just thought it was interesting that another country was adopting the Stoner system. A few people in NZ have 7.62x39 AR type rifles. They are often considered more of a curiosity rather than something to bet your life on. I can say that the larger bolt face required etc presents some challenges for the system. The NEA (Canadian) ones have a bugger bolt at the cost of material in the barrel extension. The American made ones generally open out a standard AR bolt which makes the bolt weaker.

I have direct relation to this - some of us in this part of the World need to know there is more behind some of this weaponry than meets the eye (or what we are led to believe)

Ukraine will be using rocks after these if they have to - or anything else given to them free or told to them to keep them getting IMF funding.

Yes the bolt head failures experienced by US guns, both in 7.62x39 and 6.5 Grendel guns would seem to have the risk magnified in a select fire gun.

As long it's decent material and has a notch in one of the lugs to relieve tension, hopefully they can avoid issues.

PS Sarvo, you need to chill. It's doesn't say Ukraine is a NATO country anywhere in the article. That was a post by some dude in Pakistan who seems to be asking a question in reference to the bit about the rifles being produced to 'NATO standard'. What are they going to produce it to? Chinese made M4 gifted to Philippine Army standard?

They are a NATO Proxy - to become a NATO member all borders on and inside must be free of any conflict - far from the case here - unbeknownst to most in our region of the Planet.

You sure wouldn't be "chillin" if you knew a bit more on what is going on inside Ukraine and has been for 4 years now.
They are being armed discretely and cheaply to not draw attentions and raise concerns over arming a non NATO country

Whatever the reasons that exist, it seems a practical modular design that allows use of different ammo, barrels and intended use.

having handled(but not fired) a couple of those rifles, I will say they seem better finnished than the rangers sold in NZ by a considerable margen- I wouldent consider them porely made at all

There is a GoPro footage on Funkers YouTube channel of them being used by Philippine forces clearing Al Qaeda from the Southern captured city. They certainly function well in that.

I wonder if they'd swap 2 SKS's for one?

That Rifle is in 5.56 not 7.62X39.

"WAC-47 is a variant of the M4 assault rifle has been designed to replace Soviet-designed 5.45/7.62mm AK weapons in Ukrainian service"
