This is a screenshot of a TV ONE News item about a Ukrainian deer hunter now using his own hunting rifle as a sniper rifle against the invading Russians.
What do you think are the make + model of his scope and rifle?
I can only name one of them.

I remember my Seargeant instructor telling us that our life expectancy on the battlefield under live fire would probably be under 15 min.
I am not sure if those civilians in arms are realising that .
one would hope a fella could make them 15 minutes count.......
they are brave souls whichever way you look at it.....Putin has a lot to answer for,so many widows.orphans and grieving families on both sides of the line...

Given the preponderance of body armour on today's battlefield, I would hope its in a 30 cal of some flavour for the availability of fmj and armour piercing projos.

The term 'sniper' gets bandied about far too frequently. Most are referring to someone who can shoot accurately ( a marksman). A true sniper's skillsets are only about 30% being a very good shot. The rest is attributed to fieldcraft and personal characteristics

Personally, I would rather be a long way away behind a 50 cal and out of range of the average assualt rifle .
Might stretch your life expectancy out to 20 minutes that way.
But a 30 cal wearing a suppressor is a whole lot easier to remain 'hidden', to the degree possible on the battlefield than the muzzle signature (even suppressed) of the big 50 cal. Plus, to employ the 50 cal's advantages (longer ranger) needs a shedload of training and practise.

It sounds like that is exactly what the Ukrainian special forces are doing well behind the Russian's front line. Would be a helluva scary place to be. Especially with the number of drones being used for forward observation. I felt for these 2 isolate Russian soldiers in a scraped out hollow with a Ukrainian drone hovering above them. Sheesh..... Scope is a PST Gen 2, in MRAD so a man of good taste.
Has a non-swivel Harris thats installed backwards, maybe we could crowd fund him a better bipod.

Which is why they last slightly longer than the 15 minutes of the average front line infantry soldier! Stalking and camouflage are the make or break skills, and there are some fairly mediocre shooters (by sniper standards) that are snipers due to their excellent spotter skills.Quote:
