    Uncommon knowledge

Does anybody have some fun facts/uncommon knowledge they could share with me about two things:
    1. The 30-06 calibre
    2. The sako L61R, earlier 60s versions (bofors stamped barrel)

I have done a lot of research already, read through all the pages like Wikipedia, sako forums etc. Seems exact info on old Sako models is quite vague! I am keen for interesting things to learn about my new rifle
Maybe it's a silly question, I'm not sure.

Yes, I did. Interesting that they say on that thread the serial numbers for L61R are supposed to have ended after 90954. My serial number is 94xxx, which shouldnt exist... And it has a bofors barrel, so it should in theory be a much lower serial number. From what I can figure out sako serial numbers have been confusing people since the beginning of time, so I gave up trying to figure it out.

Based on that chart of old serial numbers Zimmer, where does this fit?

    Greetings,
To answer question 1, the 30-06 is a modification of the 30-03 cartridge adopted in 1903 in the 03 Springfield. The 03 had a longer case and a 220 grain round nose projectile. It was obsolete before introduction as most world armies were moving to spitzer projectiles. The 06 cartridge had a 150 grain projectile which had inferior range to most other cartridges used in WW1, especially for long range machine gun barrages. It soldiered on however until replaced by the 7.62x51 aka .308. As a hunting cartridge however it was very popular especially in the US but also NZ although outsold by the .308 today.
    Enough trivia, there is more.
    Regards Grandpamac.

I've got a real old document somewhere on SAKO serial numbers/dates. I just need to find it. I suspect though, the one I posted will be no different.
