    Unusual ammo you've come across

I found out recently that Winchester makes subsonic .22 magnum ammo. Why, I'm not quite sure, but we even had a couple of bricks at work, a pest control guy bought it, I'm guessing just to deal with bunnies etc up close quietly with the same rifle he uses for longer range high velocity shots. Another thing is CCI 'Quiet' ammo, it runs at just 710 fps and won't cycle a semi, they also do a 'Suppressor' ammo, which will, both of which are quieter than the regular CCI subs. I just tried some of the 'Quiet' stuff today alongside regular CCI subs and man is it quiet, makes the normal subsonic sound sound like high velocity by comparison. Anyone else come across weird factory ammo?

Tried a packet of them, 22short case with a big arse bullet, could only hit the side of a barn at 10 yards travelling sideways
Quiet and slow but needed a faster twist.

That CCI CB long 29gr (super slow) stuff is crazy quiet, like genuinely quieter that an air rifle. I found with 22 sighted at 50yards the CB longs were almost dead on at 20yards. Was horrifically inaccurate but work great on possums up close.

Shoots ok out of 1/2 my AR's and I had a bolt gun rebarled to use it. I'm constantly looking for more of it. Niche product for sure

I got some from Rusty Dog in Pukekohe, grouped ok but no range to speak of. Was wanting something to lay the smack down on some peacocks. Ended up getting a 223

Think more along the lines of the Toby rifle.

Bought a pile off a guy a while ago, seems to all be the same, but three different sorts of packaging. Got 600 odd, but would buy any I came across too tbh. Close range on possums they just plop out of the tree like a furry vending machine

Sure is odd looking stuff though. My marlin 795 stabilises it, but cycles it poorly after a mag or two as it gums up the action and the 795 likes clean undies. Brno mod 2 shoots it well enough, cycles fine being a bolt action. Brno 581 shoots accurately out to 50m, but have to single feed it, think the 581 has quite a heavy bolt or some such. It comes in a very very nifty box, great for fumbling around in the dark but no squishing in your pocket.

With a bolt gun, a dialable scope and a drop chart you can ear shoot goats to a surprising distance. 20" barrel and Maximus .22 mag can and it's soooooo sneeky. Ideal for reducing the amount of land that has to be closed when doing pest control.

I would buy 10k+ if another shipment came in, even though I don't use much of it per year even when I'm in NZ
