I’m waiting on one.
Shipping is now Sep/Oct. :(
The factory charging handle is left side only.
Also from the pics it’s not a big handle. So I’m avoiding any scopes or scope mounts that have large bolts on the left side.
Saves on scraped fingers or knuckles.
The charging handle on the left is a big put off for me for what I would use one for ie service rifle competions. To me, being a right handed shooter, I think it would be a pain to try and cycle the bolt when in the prone position or when utilising a sling, compared to a bolt handle on the right. Now if I was a lefty I would be seriously looking at one.
However I can see it working for the likes of ipsc rifle and 3 gun where only one shot per target is required and you can rack the bolt when moving/transitioning to another target.
@NZShoota I'm a lefty and find that if I'm firing a r/h bolt prone it's really easy as finger stays on trigger and your other hand works the bolt, once used to the movements its pretty quick. Useless when you need your second hand to support rifle though
Or a change in government and a new arms act
I still think it's very feasible. We're not getting general use of A cat semi auto centrefires back, but further exemptions for pest control and for sports shooters should be the minimum demand, and both National and ACT were talking along these lines last election. Bring back E cat and get rid of P is not unreasonable.
Err ok
My understanding is that ACT have a new arms act that would re-introduce the E category at least. With Nicole sitting at 3 on the list and national needing ACT next year it’s actually a reality.
For me personally straightpull ARs are just a temporary fix. Others see them as a permanent option. Whatever rocks your boat.
I understand that current tactical training keeps the trigger finger on the trigger, and the other hand operates the bolt.
so a right handed shooter operates the bolt with the left hand
My Troy arrived set up like this too, but can be swapped over in a few minutes. I am left-handed so worked fine for me.
Thanks for the replies team. Shame the charging handle couldn't be moved to either side to suit shooter.
Regarding moves to change gun laws, I agree that ACT may be our best hope.
Dogmatix, any thoughts on the manufacturer? I haven't read anything bad about them online.
I'm very close to pulling the proverbial trigger and putting my deposit down.
Similarly I've only heard good things in general about UTAS.
I can't see what could go wrong with the exception of twisting and breaking the charging handle rod by accident, as its not designed as solid and to be used as often as say an AK
Guess its trial and error time.
@Beavis might as well, although if shipping gets delayed again, he'll be busy with another new arrival. :XD:
I feel like the charging handle could be moved to the RHS with a bit of engineering. If it had a slick side receiver, this would be easy. Even more so in the fact as you could then attach a charging handle directly to the BCG and mill a slot for it in the receiver.
I believe you can run a standard charging handle on these. Not sure if it'd be a benefit, or a hindrance, but it's an option
Yes you can.
Anyone have any suggestions on ammo for this rifle, barrel has a 1:7 twist rate, 16 inch. I've been buying the American Eagle 50 grain in anticipation but starting to think I will need a heavier grain. Will be using it for Fallow deer.
American Eagle 50 gr is an excellent load but I wouldn't use it on fallow.
I prefer heavier soft points like Federal blue box 64 gr, Winchester Super-X 64 gr, Hornady Whitetail 60 gr
or anything loaded with Hornady 55 or 62 gr soft points seems to work.
There are packs of Federal Fusion 62gr for a good price at the local shop. Once the stock is gone, the price will double when the next lot comes in soon. The reviews are really good on it but as it's not the MSR version, do you think it will be fine for the straight pull AR?
Fusion 62 gr would be a great choice if it shoots well in your rifle.
MSR just means it is optimised for short 14"-16" barrels. Standard Fusion will be a little slower through a 16" barrel but I don't think the deer will notice.
If it's a good price why not grab as much as you can afford:)
For deer pigs and goats I'm currently running Frontier 5.56 NATO in a Troy straight-pull 1-7
and Speer Gold Dot 64 gr (new stuff is 62 gr) in Browning X-Bolt 1-8 .223

I’ll be loading 65gn SGK for game for mine.
Backup for when they run out will be Hornady 55gn SPs.
Any accessories that you are looking at getting for it? Scope type, in particular?
Unfortunately I got rid of all my AR accessories in the steal back. :(
Suppressors, 10 round mags, ACOG and Vortex prism scopes and scope mounts etc.
All gone. :(
So I’m putting my Loopy 3.5-10 LRT in a Vortex 30mm mount on it.
Will have to get a new can with 1/2x28 thread.
Still have a bipod mount and a couple of 2 point slings somewhere.
went into DM today and had a fondle in person, i was was happily surprised at the rifle, maybe just looking at it online reminded me of what we can no longer have but it seemed to be built pretty well, had a decent trigger and was lightweight, the charging handle is spring assisted so wasnt too bad, if the rifles prove to be accurate I might consider buying one, I will say the iron sights absolutely sucked but who isnt going to put an optic on it...
I have one on order and am keenly awaiting its arrival.
To be honest I'm not sure it's going to be that much more useful than my Ruger American ranch but it's going to be fun finding out ;)
I do expect it to be very quick working off a bipod as a right handed shooter. Ideal for mobs of goats if you can get yourself into the right position.
Out of interest, did they give more coin for handing one in with accessories? I thought it was just the naked gun that was priced?
My Norinco uppered A1 clone was my favourite rifle. So accurate and smooth shooting.

But not from GC though?
As the workmanship on theirs was by blind 80 year old Chinese grandmothers.
