About LinkBacksA newbie myself and I wouldn't skip it. About 800 rounds through mine in 4 outings (two at targets). That's a lot more practice than I'd have got if I'd gone straight to centerfire.
It's great just being able to blast away as long as you like and not even think about the cost of ammo.
