If you are mechanically minded its pretty simple with a few basic tools. I would recommend a set of punches, allen keys, upper receiver vice block and armorers wrench. All of these can be purchased on TM and are worth having if you are an AR owner anyway. The cheapest armorers wrench you can find will do the trick. Often rails come with their own barrel nut spanner and all you need is a 1/2" torque wrench.

We occasionally offer to build kits customers buy off us at no charge if they are present in store - and we have time. Theres not a lot that can wrong if you do it yourself though.
