Yeah as Brads said, Varmint rets are quiet fine ( as they are designed for little critters ) and also made to work with flat shooting light / high speed ammo. For bigger beasties something like a Luepy B&C or big game holdover reticle ( most scope manufactures make em now ) will be more user friendly.
Hold over reticles work well out to 500 odd yards, but you need to put in a little time & shooting practice working out where your POI ( point of impact ) is for each hold over bar / dot to where your rifle is shooting for them to work to full potential.
