Very good gunsmith - Allen Carr

    Hi all
Sometimes we are quick to complain or condemn, and sometimes we are slow to give credit where it is deserved. I have a Brno 600 that needed to be bedded and I rang Allen Carr in Paraparaumu to see if he could do the job, no problem at all he said. I also asked on the off chance that he may have a Brno single stage trigger that I could replace the set trigger that was on the rifle, "yes I have a couple here" so another issue sorted. The recoil pad was still original and perished so he replaced that as well. I picked the rifle up 10 days after dropping it off and the work is absolutely excellent!. The bedding looks great with a decent amount of support for the barrel, and it has also been pillar bedded as well. The trigger is such an improvement, breaks like glass at about 2.2 lb, and the recoil pad has been fitted like a bought one! I am a very happy client with the work I have recieved. The cost of the above work was less than I had planned so happy there as well.
I had the opportunity to look at some of Allen's custom work and he is definitely in the master craftsman category.
I am posting just because of the great service and workmanship I received, and to let fellow owners know there is a very good gunsmith in the lower North Island if they need one.

    Regards

I've had great work done by Allen, including fixing a headspace issue on a Portugese mauser 6.5x57 AI that others wouldn't look at.

you start to think they are all great till you get a 1/2-20 thread cut and you cant even thread your 1/2-20 thread suppressor to it

definitly not allens work just to avoid confusion

I’ve used him since 1992 and I have never had any fault with his work. Doesn’t matter how small a job. I think a good judge of a gunsmith is their workshop. His is a small single garage and it’s immaculate. No pile of tools or gun parts all over the bench. He’s not making custom rifles now as few people want to pay for the hours involved.
I would trust him with the best I have in my safe. He will be missed when he retires.

That is why I insist on having the suppressor when I cut thread. I find the threads, whilst a nominal 1/2 20 or whatever range from ver tight to very slack, particularly when people use old well worn suppressors

I cut the thread to suit the actual can

alans good, lives round the corner from me and has been a family acquaintance over the years. has worked on a few bits for me and always given good work back. Even once when he cut my new barrel too short, He remedied it by fitting a brand new barrel at his expense. top work. recently just upgraded my rem700 extractor with a sako style for me.

Allen has done my gunsmithing work since the 1980s. Every job is well explained and done by a professional master craftman. No job large or small is too difficult. Would recommend him to anyone ( and have to many firearms owners).
