    Vortex 3x12x42 HP.

    Hello chaps.

Looking for advice as to a scope for out to 500 and into 30 odd yards on a 7mm Rem Mag. I have an old Swift but have the urge for something shinaay.
Anyone have experience with the above? with the Dead Hold BDC reticle?
Looking for a scope with suitable magnification and quality and am open to suggestions. If not a Vortex then what? Looking to spend up to a grand if necessary.

    Thanks alot.

I have this scope, and it's big brother the 4-16x42 HP Both are fabulous scope for the money, good glass, durable and haven't yet let me down.

For the money you are willing to spend there are many options, me personally I'm a Vortex fan as they fit my budget, these are my bottom end the rest are gen II PST's and Razor's

Thanks Double Shot. Any issues with low light shooting or tracking with the HP?

There are so many options that fit the bill for what you want especially out to $1k. You dont have to spend anything like that if you dont want to tho to do what you ask.

The good old Weaver Grand Slam or even the newer SuperSlam do a great job (i have both). The Weaver Superslam 3-15x42 was my first dialup scope a few years back, it works super well, and has turrets that you have to pop up first before you dial them, which i really like.

I too have had a great run out of Vortex's (some people poo poo them however) but even the cheaper 4-12 Diamondbacks to the Viper HST and PST's they have always done me well, mid to long range hunting and Long range gong smashing. I dial them all. And i can see the target well enough to kill stuff out there well beyond distances that the average hunter shoots stuff. Things dont always need to carry a high price tag or certain name to work well eh. I have 6 or 7 of them on various rifles and have not had a problem to date.

Some guys love Leupold, and a VX3 with CDS dials should see you right too. You dont need 20 or 24x power to shoot deer at 500 yards.

Many many more options in the sub $1k budget.

@GWH i am lining up a vx3 3.5-10 CDS but like the look of the weaver grandslam 3-12. Do they dial well? Been impressed with my friends basic v series.

Yes indeed, the Grandslams have a good reputation for dialing well.

Awesome. How do you rate them next to a vx3?

Too be honest I've never owned one, my bro in law has one. I've always thought of them as over rated for their price. Have not compared the Grandslam and a vx3 side by side tho.
