Is it the law now that firearms need to be transported in a case like this?

    No.

Not visible is the requirement if firearm is disabled (e.g. bolt removed). If unable to be disabled (e.g. leveraction) it needs a locked case or trigger lock.

I think airlines require a locked hard case - but that ain't law.

I needed a case in a hurry yesterday so went and bought one of these. They are a FAR cry from the equivalent Pelican case.

Definitely not worth the $240 I paid at all. Probably not even at $160ish when on sale.

Better than those junk Plano ones you see, but definitely not what I would consider quality.

Nothing like leaving shit to the last moment, so that's on me.

You need a hard case for the ferry to Stewart island. Have a couple of the super cheap ones and they have done a few trips back and forth now with no issues. Never had a pelican so can't compare....

Are you a member of "supercheap auto club plus" if so, then they should credit you the difference in price.

If you got it at SuperCheap and they're now on sale I think that they honor the reduced price and will refund/credit you the difference. You may need to be a member of their loyalty club though, very worth checking out.

I have a Supermax Heavy-Duty Rifle Case from gun city. Not cheap but a good sturdy case that has worked well for me.
