Editorial: We have too many guns on our streets | Stuff.co.nz

What a load of old bollocks that article was.
I haven't read it and probably won't bother. Our firearms are not meant for the streets, but for the bush and wild places where their useage meets its legitimate purposes. Policing of street mongrels is the real issue, and keeping f--kin PC politicians, media and anti gun pricks out of the debate would be a constructive help .

Isn't it true though that the greatest majority of firearms are imported for recreational use, and that the more we import increases the likelihood of more ending up in the wrong hands? Maybe there are too many guns being imported and going into circulation?
I do understand the argument that criminals will get their hands on them through illegal avenues anyway, and that harsher rules only effect the law abiding, but when I look at those guns that were found in a ceiling by Police I do wonder why someone needed to import them in the first place?
Stricter importing controls and firearm tracking wouldn't worry me in the least if its going to help control the number of guns circulating in both the right and wrong hands.
I also support far stricter firearm application vetting.
That's only my opinion and I'm sure that there are valid contra arguments.
p.s. I haven't read the Stuff link
Stuff is to NZ Media what Donald Trump is to US politics
This utter twaddle isn't even worth thinking about
maybe they werent imported through the proper chanels so theres no record of them being here anyway if you can get large amounts of drugs in it shouldnt be to hard to get firearms in
It would not bother me one bit if all semi auto's were outlawed in NZ, including shotguns.
I like some of Trumps ideas and proposals but would prefer if someone else was in the running with them😆

Seriously? So because they are no use to you, no one should have them?
It's not the type of firearm thats at fault it's the knobends that use them unlawfully.
I know people that would do more damage with a bolt gun than any Tard has done with a semi in any mass shooting to date, if they flipped there lid.
I admit to not seeing semis being required for hunting but I love using them for other lawful pursuits.
And there are heaps of people that enjoy hunting with them so I would never want that privilage taken from them.

I thoroughly enjoy semi autos. I am thinking about getting my daughter a semi auto shot gun as her first firearm. Her A should be in the post soon.
Re: We have too many guns on our streets.
Ah ummm...far out I don't know where to start!
-A list of gun owners, their address and what guns are held there, to be made publicly available. WTF!!!!!!!!!!! No seriously WTF!!!!!!!! Hell, let's include people taking perception medication as well, so the P-heads can do a round trip to rob guns and morphine in the same voyage, after all this would be more sustainable for the environment if burglars use less carbon credits in their day to day robberies.
-In the wake of (then list historic cases all about 30 years ago).... hardly current affairs.
-some shit about hunting rabbits because nz is a rural community? Then tries to say we don't need anything bigger like a 7.62x39 (the calibre of an AK) because its overkill for rabbits. Ummmm again WTF!!!!!!! I hunt much larger animals than just rabbits. Surely he's aware that in nz we also hunt 7 species of deer, pigs, cattle, tahr, chamois, goats, sheep....not to mention target shooting.....etc.... all of which need a bigger calibre than a .22.
-Purposely calling guns Ak47 Or M16... when they are not.
Im all for gun control, but if someone is trying to tell me how to do something, they better know what they're talking themselves first.

Shit we don't even keep a list of child molesters?
thats not the first time this MSM clown has been an utter spanker
.bit like the polis in the house who were once heard referring to rifles as rambo guns during a debate.a former poli told me that .said he nearly fell off his seat laughing and had to excuse himself from the chamber to go for a laughter induced piss!!
five bob says all those weapons the rozzers confiscated never saw the light of day via any legal import channel in NZ.had anything of that quantity etc etc been so,the news would have got round forums this this faster than shit through a goose!!!furthermore what reason would an importer have to legally import in such quantity given the govts juminess around firearms????????
Thank you Woody! NOT! FFS peoples we all need to stick together on this, I dont care whether you like bolts, semis, cannons or air rifles, we are all here for the good of our sport and we need to be tolerant of each others choices provided we are assessed as a person responsible enough to have a Firearms License. The last thing we need is some bloody idiot from within mouthing off and discrediting others simply because he doesnt like their choice of firearm. For once lets just all band together and make sure that as responsible firearms license holders we are still able to access firearms and our sport. And take the rest of the crap to your local MP and tell them to pull their finger out of their fundamental orifice and do something about the CRIMINALS.
Yup. Once they get one, they will go the rest.
The UN thing is slowly going to f$&k us.

First semis then,
Pistols,
Pump actions
Levers - don't laugh that's the discussion in Australia
Maybe you will end up with single shot shot-guns and .22 bolt actions?
Well look at most of Asia, private ownership is practically prohibited.
Meh. Let's all just become criminals. They don't seem to want to go after them. Get less heat than being law abiding it would seem.
Ugh just read the article. Could somebody seriously please launch constant DNS attacks against stuff until they just go away. What a steaming pile of shit it is seriously. What reputable news outlet riddles their page with click bait.
If people remember Stanley Graham did a shit load of damage with bolt action and lever acction rifles.
If you have to Google Stanley Graham, please learn some history. It is pertinent.
I have stuff in mobile version as when I am away t work I check it for pertinent news.
It is shit and their writers are dense at the best of times but it's all I know. If there is a better site people use, let me know.
It doubles up shit stories a lot on the same page which demonstrates a lack of worthy reading.

I'd take those odds, my pick would be that they most likely came from this guy, or someone just like him, and one of their little business ventures. - http://www.nzherald.co.nz/nz/news/ar...ectid=11245846 of note is that bugger all of what he sold (mixture of 10/22s, ARs and NHM 90s) were ever recovered. So they will have been brought in and sold legally and then disappeared into the grey market
When home, I drive past the spot where his house was all the time.
There are still his bullet holes in the Kowhitirangi hall across the road.
My wife is related to him, so I am nice to her most of the time😆
We were married in the church beside the hall.

Hey , you three erstwhile sensitive new age guys. Stop reading your own bias into my post. I simply said it would not bother me if semi auto's were banned. Nothing more
However, I DO reckon that if the semi auto's were not here, that our conservation values for our game , both land and airborne, would benefit more than somewhat; and probably shooting skills as well.
Problem is I saw it in the page two of the Sunday star times. Guess what paper we cancelled today....
Here is a comparison for that twat. Swap the word cars for the times he used guns.
We all need a small car cos big ones are not needed. You can fit four in a small car and most people only carry the driver asnd occasionally plus 1. (if only Auckland could follow that logic- traffic rush could fit three times as many cars on the car park - oops I mean motorway.....
Registering your car stops it getting into criminal hands as when you lose a car to theft you have to tell the police who has it now.....Yeah that will work....
And we had a register. So clearly all the crims with illegal guns will happily rock up to a police station and register their guns. Just like all the legitimate owners.....
What an absolute plonker. He is employed to write. Pity he has not managed the ability to think at all........He is obviously pro weed as he is clearly smoked copius amounts of something to kill all his logic cells and create all that paranoia.....
Everyone is entitled to their opinion re the type of firearm they own and use, but your tentative link to conservation values due to the number of shots fired in a semi auto is truly a crock of sh*t.
Protecting the environment of gamebirds by preventing loss of wetlands, improving the sorry state of stream water quality and reducing predation will do more than any fire rate compared to a pump of break action.
How many large game animals are shot on the run with multiple shots from a semi in a recreational setting (ie not WARO or other pest control), sweet F all would be closer to the truth. For a bolt, pump, semi or lever, once the first shot is taken, usually the animal is either down or away to live another day. Poor marksmanship is not exclusive to any type of firearm.
You got at least the first bit right. Everyone is entitled to their opinion.
Unlike you lot, I did not abuse you or anyone when I put my point of view.
Read my post again, it seems that you didn't absorb what I said.
I didn't abuse you, I just said your argument regarding conservation values was tentative and weak.
'unlike you lot"
"erstwhile sensitive new age guys"
How ironic that you seem overly sensitive then? ;)
Its a public forum, if you don't like it when people disagree with your posts, then you know the answer.
Woody, sensitive new age guy - well you got that wrong! Sensitive when it comes to my shooting sport yes, new age, hell know, I'm probably old enough to be your Grandad. But you apparently missed my point. We do not need to knock each other, there is enough dumbass media dickheads doing that. Yes you are entitled to your opinion, but maybe, just maybe, now is not the right time to publicly voice on our Forum. Why dont we all do something constructive like joining SSANZ [or some other well run pro gun organisation] and back them when they go to the media with some logical and well presented rebuttals to all this knee jerk goody goody 2 shoes bullshit.
