Thread: Weatherby Mark V (or other thin barrel) - bedding

Does anyone have experience with bedding a Weatherby Mark V?

I've got a Fibremark in 30-06. The barrel is long and extremely thin (#1 contour at most?) - think of a piece of spaghetti.

It shoots pretty mediocre as is (~ 2") and is currently pressure point bedded. There is a lot of slop in the main action bedding although the recoil lug seems to be bearing reasonbly well.

I've bedded quite a few rifles before and have always free floated the barrels - but views seem to be very mixed on whether you should actually do this to a Weatherby. Nevertheless, I'd like to avoid retaining/reinstating pressure points if at all possible as it introduces another variable, especially when using a bipod, that I would like to avoid.

And insights/tips/frustrations would be appreciated...

Or should I be getting the barrel turned back a turn to get rid of what is a ridiculously long throat...
