from what I've read, that particular round is pretty tough on barrels. Also, I'm not sure it will work in short actions with heavy bullets. I'd like to shoot 140 gr VLDs.

A 7x52mm pushes 140 grainers at 3200 fps easily, 3000fps with a 16 inch tube.

The barrel life of the 6.5L is very acceptable compared to many other chamberings. The general concensus is you can expect about 2500 rounds unless you run it really hot. One point worth remembering if you get one is the case can hide a lot of pressure. The small primer and thick base walls can handle a lot of pressure before the signs really show. Not smart ringing its neck with the cost of the brass.

Have to agree with KG on its marginal suitability for 140s- the boiler room is more suited to 130s or lighter. But it's a very efficient cartridge- mine with its 27" bbl drives the 123 Scenars at 2945 with just 38grs of 2208, and it's way off max. Those that insist on 140s tend to use 2209 (H4350).

6.5x47L was developed by Lapua as a specialised 300m cartridge. One of their aims was to have a barrel life which exceeded the 6mmBR. The 6mmBR can be good for 3000+ b4 pristine accuracy drops. Re projectile choices - one of the best F Class shooters in NZ very successfully shot 139gr Scenars. I use 130gr Bergers max. I believe if you wish to drive 139/140gr in the Lapua you have chosen the wrong case. If wanting good to hottish 140gr performance that is the domain of the 6.5AI, 6.5/284 (along with their v short barrel live). My Lapua is throated for the 123gr Scenar. I have also successfully shot 123 A-Max which perform well but finally settled on 130gr Berger which is a v compromise. Best accuracy by far is with the 130gr Berger.
