haven't got any ammo yet for my sks and was wondering what you guys use ?
also where you get it from
I go with the Barnaul FMJ stuff for plinking (about $12 for 20 from Reloaders). I bought 400 odd Barnaul soft point rounds thinking they'd be good for hunting but as the SKS doesn't have much of a feed ramp it just smashes the lead soft point and gets stuck every now and then.
The highland stuff I don't have trouble feeding it, but that's more hunting ammunition (and it's $25 for 20 I think).
Reloaders often don't have stock of the Barnaul as it gets bought up pretty quick, but it'd pay to give them a call and check.
You can buy Barnaul direct off Jim, the importer. He's a good guy to deal with and delivers promptly BARNAUL - Home . It's the cheapest you'll get it. To answer your question I've only ever shot Barnaul soft points through mine. Accuracy is decent and no feeding problems. No I'm not getting payed to say any of that.
Argh! Gun Shitty ripped me again! Even on special the ripped me for nearly twice what this guy charges.
Thanks a lot for the link Beavis, that's awesome. Now that I can get real NATO ammo in 7.62x51 and not have to pay $2.50 a round I can justify getting an M14/M305 just for kicks lol
yeah i got some 168gr hp federal .308 for my m305 from the gunshed and its really good, paid 200 odd for it but this was 1 half ago maybe 2 but thanks for the link beavis
No worries. Be very careful with Federal ammo in M305's
how come? i've fired around 100 rounds with no faults ?
Sensitive primers. My one had an out of battery discharge with American Eagle (Federal) which totaled the rifle
interesting, i may get some barnaul for the m305 and use the rest of the federal in the tikka which is still a virgin
yeah buy direct from the importer - price includes freight from memory
had 223 and x39 ammo from him - good to deal with - hardest was the bloody police form!
