@mikee I had one of these BLR takedowns in 30/06 and it was accurate once I started feeding it nice ammo rather than bulk stuff....(Highland worked well, Barnaul not so much but at under $1 a poke I was happy to let a few rounds head along for the ride......)

Pump sounds like the best option then. Sucks for prone, but good for most IPSC type shooting. Maybe try another Troy ?

It's an individual choice.

PAR is not ideal for fast shooting in any position except standing. The Russians a few years ago fielded a pump action AND straight pull dual ability .223 rifle for competitions, precisely because PARs are clumsy prone.

I'd take a good look at the Howa 1500 short action in .223.
In addition to its short stroke, it has an only 70 degree bolt lift (known fast SMLE 60 deg lift, mausers 90deg lift).

Attach a no-gunsmith tactical knob on the bolt and you have a rifle you can fire with your middle finger while holding and operating the bolt with thumb/index grip, for fast follow up shots.

Add a muzzle brake and you'll have to get working on your fast mag changes.

3 inches was best we could do among 3 shooters , tried factory ammo from 45gn thru to 77gn. Not good enough for what it cost. Back it went
The NZ made one was best accuracy wise rivaling a good AR but when you use it prone or with bipod very awkward

I feel your pain Mikee, our now destroyed multi purpose rifles are hard to replace. I’ve looked at the NashBush JacindAR15 with unlimited media magazine cover but I found it to be very inaccurate and prone to going off half cocked. It also had the annoying feature of disappearing when things got hot.

Pretty sure I am looking for the impossible but worth trying. I cant believe I am saying this but a Blaser in 223 with 10 round mags would do but I would have to sell everything else I own to get one.......................and I am pretty sure the general Idea is to buy more not sell more to buy less.

I have shot one for years, Really only a 100yrd gun and that's with hot 125gr loads.

I managed to pick up a Ruger American 7.62x39 as a replacement for my Mini30, Miss the Mini30 but it is what it is. Held onto my magazines when I passed in my 30 so have 5 & 10 rd mags for the American. Shoots more accurately than my 30, Ak`s or SKS`s ever did. As the 223 version takes AR mags that's a possibility.
The Americans bolt could be smoother and it has jammed on me a couple of times for no apparent reason while loading, apart from that it seems fine. GC as I understand got 25 in their last shipment and all were sold in 2 days including the one I bought. The retailers must be the only ones winning from this Confiscation.

Yes I have also heard rumors that messers Nash / Adern with the assistance of the NZ Police have single handedly been the best sales people the sports stores have never employed!!

Just been looking at the Americans, I would have brought a HMR14 Begerra in .223 but they don't make one

I brought 3 American Ranch Rifles.
223 with a 1-8 scope and birdcage.
300 Blackout with a 1-4 scope and DPT silencer.
7.62x39 with a Holosun red dot and comp.
Good rifles for the money and very accurate as well considering what they are. The 7.62x39 has far better accuracy compared to the now gone AK47 with FMJ.
10 shot mags and plenty of practice working the bolts make them reasonably fast to shoot standing or prone without removing the gun from my shoulder.

Only change I would make is finding a larger bolt knob for each.

I think the best logical AR15 replacement has yet to show up.

I will be watching what is available in 2020 with interest.

I'm amused no end by the notion that the Fruitcakery (Government) has been a mighty seller of new firearms. Hats off to them. Well done Labour.
