What to do what to do....

    Hi guys,
I think I posted a similar thread recently thinking of a next gun project and this is more an update of my options.
I'm still keen on a 300wsm for the next gun and was tossing up between sako finnlight, kimber montana, sako a7 or the humble tikka t3.

Finnlight owners must live in dream worlds because I have seen 5 second hand ones for sale and all want within $3-400 of a brand new one which is just ridiculous in my books.

At the moment I have found a kimber Montana 300wsm 2nd hand listed as:

    Excellent condition Montana,
    trigger job & action worked,
    bedded
    Shoots MOA.

    for $1550

Or I found that I could get a brand new tikka t3 lite stainless for $940 or a stainless SakoA7 for $1350.

    What does everyone think?

Still wanna put a Swaro Z5 3.5-18x44 BT with a plex 4 reticle on it

Haven't heard anything good about the A7, in fact the reverse. A reason your not also looking at the xbolt?

My brother has one in 30-06 and its a great gun actually, I dont mind the A7.

I dunno, at one time I wanted an a bolt for a varmint rifle until I handled one and just didnt really like it at all, havent seen an X bolt though mind you.

The thing going for tikka, A7 and Finnlight is when I was set on Finnlight I bought a limbsaver designed to fit those 3 rifles so I'm throwing away $75 if I get soemthing else, inlcuding the montana.

    Do you have an Xbolt?

Personally I wouldn't pay any more for an A7 than I would for a T3.

And I'd be keen on the Kimber out of that list.

I know what you mean about gun resale, some people want stupid money for 2nd hand guns when I can go down to our local gun shop, negotiate a couple hundred bucks off a new rifle and walk out happier.

I would really like a Winchester Extreme Weather SS, but can't get a cack-handed one.

Have you tried them all? Which do you prefer? After playing with all of the above in different calibers i would stay with the finnlight.

I would guess they think that adding a scope to it really increases the value. Unfortuanately most people tend to look at a rifle for the value of the rifle alone. A scope makes it more attractive but doesn't normally add much value. Well not unless it is exactly the scope you are looking for.

Is this pricing in Aussie dollars? If so he brought a kimber, bedding it, got the action and trigger worked over and it still only shoots MOA... I hope hes shooting factory ammunition through it.

Nice choice of scope. I believe in spending at least more than half the value of the rifle on the scope. The Tikka at $940 would give you an extra $600 to put towards your scope over the kimber.

I have handled all and would agree but I just cant pay that money, my brother has an A7, a montana and owned a tikka t3 lite, I like all of them though

I may not always be the brightest spark but thats something I've always taken into consideration. 4 of the 5 were bare and the one with a scope was saving you around $400 on buying the whole set up new.

All Aussie dollars, here a new montana is around $2200 so he's asking what I consider realistic money on a second hand gun, It has not done a hell of a lot of work I dont think.[/QUOTE]

That is one way I'm looking at it, pretty much its either saving that money and getting the overral setup cheaper or paying extra and having a better gun....

    Cheers for the input mate

All mine have a scope roughly the same value as the rifle, but I run cheap guns.

I have a tikka laminate in 300wsm BH, great gun. I would get the t3 and replace the plastic stock with a bell and carlosn or something similiar (or get the laminate version) and then you have a great new gun, with all the warrantys etc. my 2c

Or you could pickup a nice Mauser action, through a barrel on it and get something that will probably out shoot the others for less.

I do like the mauser actions. I want something nice and strong for the shit I hunt in. My only thoughts against that would be building one up would add up in the costs department wouldn't it?
