Based on the "Superlite" format, which interestingly are no lighter than the "Lite" models. Barrel chop will save some weight, but it would be good to hear how much. Could slap a carbon stock on it and job done. How much weight does a carbon stock save?

A Hi-tec hunter weighs 675g not sure what a standard tikka stock weighs about 850g according to Google

I have a Kimber hunter in .308. Cut to 16" with a DPT suppressor. They do come up every so often but the 6.5 and 7mm08 do seem more common for some reason.
I quite like it now after taking a bit of time to get used to the action (controlled round feed vs push feed of all my other rifles) and sorting out a issue with the mag.

Come to think of it @Sid had a very slick custom rem700 for sale pretty sure it never sold

Last asking was $3700 looks to be available and has had just about every lightweight mod you could think of built by the late great Robbie Tiffen. I doubt you will find anything nicer for the $$$$

Mine hasn't rusted yet....I have heard some horror stories but in fairness I've owned a few howa's including an alpine, blued and stainless 1500's and not experienced the mythical howa rust before your eyes phenomenon that others seem to harp on about.....

Why did they stop making these! It was what I was looking for when I brought the Kimber. Them seemed perfect.

they are about on par with my stainless kimbers or trueflight barrels for corosion levels
tikka are slightly better

when you say rust you mean the slight browning that happens on the lower parts of the low sheen finish right? because as with all stainless a rub with a scotch brite and crc takes all that off
stainless are stainless all the way thru unlike blueing thats just essentially a paint on the outside that once worn is gone forever

the bonus I see with howa and tikka are that you can rebarrel a tikka with the plethora of take offs from all the "custom" builds for very low cost, and howa barreled actions cost less than a rebarrel and they both shoot damn well
if you wanted to play musical chairs with calibers you could do quite easily without loosing a great deal in value

I live about 3km from the ocean down wind of the predomanant wind so everything corrodes here aluminum included, tikka, sako the lot all do just spray them with your favorite airisol oil and move on with life

its like boat shopping mate, If you have the money ready before Christmas youl be shit out of luck, come winter you get choice and selection and good prices
right now you are scraping thru the bottom of the barrel paying top dollar prices

just be patient and what you are looking for will magically appear in front of you and just get good with your 300blk for the next month or so

Not sure why anyone feels compelled to buy a new rifle. Only one I have ever bought new was my .22, which was a dumb move on reflection
