Last asking was $3700 looks to be available and has had just about every lightweight mod you could think of built by the late great Robbie Tiffen. I doubt you will find anything nicer for the $$$$

Mine hasn't rusted yet....I have heard some horror stories but in fairness I've owned a few howa's including an alpine, blued and stainless 1500's and not experienced the mythical howa rust before your eyes phenomenon that others seem to harp on about.....Quote:

the bonus I see with howa and tikka are that you can rebarrel a tikka with the plethora of take offs from all the "custom" builds for very low cost, and howa barreled actions cost less than a rebarrel and they both shoot damn well
if you wanted to play musical chairs with calibers you could do quite easily without loosing a great deal in value
I live about 3km from the ocean down wind of the predomanant wind so everything corrodes here aluminum included, tikka, sako the lot all do just spray them with your favorite airisol oil and move on with life

Worth noting that a carbon barrel isn't neccesarily lighter than the factory option in the lite contour either . If you are simply looking at the carbon barrel for weight savings I don't think you will find it actually saves much - if any - over the factory offering . The real advantage to carbon barrels is weight saving over a HEAVY barrel and more repeatability when shooting strings and the barrel starts to heat up .
Not worth the extra $$ if just chasing weight reduction ....
I built my tikka with everything done , inc titanium bolt handle , supressor and barrel chop , top rail , along with carbon stock for around or slightly less than the carbon tikka that started this thread . That said I did not flute the bolt (less gaps for the bush to find it's way in to the action I reckon - in theory) That includes a spare 5 round mag .
If you want a short barreled tikka just build one @MB .
Yes I also wipe all mine down all over with remoil whenever used but the howa came out of the box like it . A little surprised myself when I saw it as the missus 7.62 mini was/is fine .Quote:

The tikka is not bad value, as you couldn't build it for that. I would question the barrel make and smiting though if its a gun city custom.

3.4kg with a suppressor, 540gram scope, and heavy optilock rings.
Put a lightweight scope on it, ditch the optilocks for a ligther weight option (or not won't make a lot of difference).
You wouldn't do better than this with a Kimber or any of the other options.
With the barrel life of a .308 a few hundred rounds is just finished breaking the thing it for you.
If you don't like it I'll straight swap you for my Kimber hunter in .308 :P which I think is just on 3kg with scope, suppressor and everything.
