what have i brought???

i was in the local hunting and fishing store a few months back and spyed this little 22 on the 2nd hand rack i thought that’s a different one i left it there
i went in a few weeks later and it was still there i had another look and it was cheap enough i just chucked it on tick and droped a few bucks there way each week
picked it up today and i still have no clue what it is the guys in hunting and fishing couldn't tell me anything about it

its made in Italy and google had very limited info but found out they came with 4 and 8 round mags which i have one of each

its a neat little rifle but what is it

The Daffini Brothers (Fri Daffini) and the company Daffini Libero Arms have been well respected gun makers in Brescia Italy from the end of WWII on.

There were a group of them who registered with the Brescia proof house just after WWII: Daffini Hannibal,Catherine Daffini , Emiliano Daffini . Joseph Daffini . Daffini Lat. & F . Free Daffini . Peter Daffini

I note that they used Brothers, (Fri) even tho Catherine is unlikely to be a brother.

Brescia, Italy is the heart of an area in Northern Italy famous for centuries for gunmaking. It has numerous factories that employ gun craftsmen and schools that teach the various industrial arts involved in gunmaking. There are and have been many small arms makers that make arms not very well known outside of the country of origin. These gunmakers also contract or specialize in making the components of the fireams bought and sold under different brands, providing lockworks, barrels, stocks, etc. Components are proofed by State agencies, and so marked (ex- PSF proof designates smokeless powder proof). Brescia is similar to Liege Belgium in that regard.

Daffini Brothers is registered at the Brescia proof house, and both makes components and finishes guns assembled from their own and others components.

When i go to a gun shop i have a good look at the 2nd hand rack

Was going to copy/paste same info as above, but saw others had done the same.

Brescia is the home of Italian gun makers. Spent a few days there a couple years ago

Im trying to find out more about this particular model but all i can find is shotguns

One of those links said it was a copy of an AP61 armi jäger?

Yeah looked up the jäger but looks closer to a stearling model 20/20p than what i have?
That book we found on google said there was a few models of the autoloading 22 but not meny were made

An interesting rifle! I have never encountered one before. It just goes to prove what a diverse selection of firearms exists in NZ. There is damn near one of eveything here, and many treasures yet to be discovered!

I took it apart the other day to see how it works ill tell you what the little things built solid 3 massive gide rods 2 at about 4mm dia and one 6mm!!! Massive springs x3 theres no little bits in there its all huge
The bolts is double the size of say a ruger 10/22

And the funny thing is it's such a little gun to handle


I'll get a chance to shoot it soon and see how it goes but unfortunately after ive had a play it's going to have to go back on the market
I shouldn't of really brought it in the 1st place more important things to spend money on but im sure @Tommy will buy it he likes strange stuff

I did the same a few years ago.
Went to Perazzi to get a gun fitted and got taken to the restaurant across the road for lunch. I had no idea what I was eating until my host informed me most visitors don't like horsemeat!!

Same here. Got fed woodcock with the old guy from the Rizzini showroom! An interesting town, amazing what you find in the nooks and crannies there.
