    What magnification scope??

    Hi all

I am in the process of sorting out a new hunting rig. It will be either a 7mm-08 or a 6.5x55swede

I am looking to get a Nikon vari power scope from the riflescopestore.com.

I am after input on whether to go for a 3-9x40 or a 4-12x40??

I have used a 3-9 on my 7.62x39 but wondered if having a higher magnification scope might help to make the most of the larger calibre.

    thoughts chaps???

    cheers
    Tracy

Do you hunt much bush? 3 could be good for that though I'd go with the 4-12 my self. 4 is still ok in most cases in the bush.

If you hunt the Kaimais then no scope at all. seriously though 3x max for tight bush, 4x for more open stuff

2x is great in bush, 3 is good, 4 is ok.
12 top end is plenty for any range you should be shooting deer at.

Good glass is better than high magnification.

each to there own on that but I wouldn't buy a lower power scope then struggle to see a animal in certain light at 300yds just me though,my 4.5.x14x40 can do anything from helping me shoot deer from 30yds in the bush to over 320yds on another face so I think go the higher vari magnification and like you say and has been told to me aswell is buy good glass.

what you say makes sense neckshot and yes decent glass. Ok so If I go for the higher mag (which I was thinking to do)

    theriflescopestore have good prices on:

    Nikon
    Redfield
    Sightron

    choice??

I was looking at the Nikon as I have read they are good value for money and have good light transmission

I have no experience with those scope brands, but if you had to choose one of those three id got the Redfeild because there parent company is Loupold or something like that.you could ask the Mods to let you run a poll on those three brands.

Nikon is nice glass for the $$ but not light if your worried about that.

Sightron make nice stuff as well.

Redfeild? Never had one as thought they are Leopolds that they don't want to tarnish there name with
