This is one of the newer ones not a Montana. He should be sweet

Take no notice of the Kimber bashers on here and elswhere. My Montana in 708 shot 1" out of the box and now does 3/4' with 18" barrel no probs . 2209 or re19 (you need to droptube this) 140gr NABs. Also loves re17 if you can get it. I reckon thats amasing from such a lightweight rifle. Am shooting off a Bullsbag which possibly tames the jump a little. It took me a bit to figure out how it likes to be held.

Cheers for all the input lads. It is clearly an emotive topic.

Plan from here is to replace the busted screw (broken one came out easily when I disassembled the rings) and try some slower and lighter factory pills. Hopefully that will get me somewhere near an inch. Once that is sorted I'll work up a load and see how I go.

a 139gr at 2850 from a 14" barrel seems crazy fast to me. When you handload try some Sierra projectiles. 120gr prohunters shoot very very well in one of my 708's when not much else would.

I will arrange for Craig to get some of my best load to you. 120 grn Nosler BT. They are backed off from "hot" so will be safe, and I will adjust them back to the recommended SAAMI OAL.

I was at the range when Dorkus was putting the loads over the chrony and wrote the speeds down for him they were 2600 - 2650, he may have trouble reading my messy illegible writing.

My experience of shooting very light rifles is to ditch the bipod and try a rolled up jacket or similar. Shrunk my groups noticeably.

That makes sense... Cheers for the use of the chrony. Turns out the barrel is 14.2" not 15"
